I talked with Dish Sales Reps and they were not very knowledgable about what I get for HD and what packages had what; they refer me to the Dish website but I then I am told different things and I backout of the deal to order HD a couple of times already!

Went to DirectTV but their installation routine was too complicated and had to do a lot of rewire because of splitters in my wiring.

I would like to get Bloomberg News and CNBC in HD if possible. If not; in SD.
Can I get it with the HD package for $29.99?

Also, is there any hidden promotions that I can get like the .01 Cinemax, etc...

DirectTV has AAA promotion but does Dish have something similar?

You wiring is going to have be redone no matter if it is D* or E*. Satellite does not work with regular splitters. Bloomberg News does not exist in HD yet. CNBC HD+ is only on D* and you also get Fox Business Channel in HD. E* does not carry CNBC in HD or Fox Buisness channel at all.

Here is a PDF file I scanned from a Dish brochure that shows exactly what comes with what package...

Hope it helps.

It help! I am thinking about going back to DirectTV! But before I dismiss the DirectTV installers; I called Dish Technical and this gal name Brook said that splitters were okay with their HD system!

I will comfirm this with another technical service guy before I try to order HD from Dish!

I am not happy with DirectTVs installers; they try to negative sell you on not install it! Always asking do you really want to have us install HD? We have to run an additional wire - see! We have to go to the roof and install the dish it bigger then the ones you have now! At first I was so happy to see them; but then they started on this negative sales and talk me out of it! They even suggested me calling Dish! Boy! With workers like that; I don't see how Direct can make any gains against their rivals!

You need either the Channel Vision splitters aor powered splitters. See link below:

It does not matter. I am well aware of the satellite power passing splitters. However, splitters on satellite can only be used in certain situations. For example you can't split a line going from the switch and feed two receivers. Each receiver has to have its own line to the switch.

I would complain to D* about the installers. I hope you got their names and what company they are from. They should be FIRED!!!

Yes that was outrageous!

Did you order with the AAA #? Did you call DirecTV after the bad installation? Call DirecTV say cancel and then you get to speak to their retention department, for such a bad install experience, you should get a $100 credited back to your first bill, have DirecTV talk to the installation company, not yourself. They will make sure a right installer to come to you next time, well if not next time the 3rd time or the 4th time.

My installation was done right on the 5th tech visits when they finally sent in their own high level experienced guy in, and as a result of my trouble DirecTV gave me 2x$100 credits plus 6 months free HD pack ($10 off for 6 months).

Of course it is true with DirecTV's system you need more wires for HDDVR's, and sometimes it can be very difficult to add another cable which might be why the installer refused to do the work. But at least give the above a try and see what happens.

jacmyoung,

I am waiting for an email reply back from the Equipment/Service division asking if they could possibly amplifer the signal and retain the splitter setup!

After I have their results; I will call DirectTV and explain the situation. Do you happen to have the right phone number to call them at? All I have is the sales numbers one for the AAA special and the other normal sales.

Nice to hear it all worked out for you; I am beginning what you have already went through!

I will post my outcome here!
