View Full Version : Was ther always tax on downloaded PSN items?
Tom Imp 02-22-08, 03:08 PM Yeah, I know this is probably a dumb question, but I honestly never noticed this until last night.
I didn't recall ever seeing tax being charged for items until I downloaded something yesterday and now I'm wondering if there has always been a tax charge.
todrigo 02-22-08, 03:26 PM Sometimes the things I DL don't get taxed sometimes they do. I don't know what the cause is, but that is my experience
William Mapstone 02-22-08, 03:46 PM always taxed for me
kekborg 02-22-08, 03:49 PM always taxed for me

Conspiracy* 02-22-08, 05:48 PM I paid tax on calling all cars but nothing else.
Thanatos9 02-22-08, 06:42 PM Haven't been taxed here in FL...maybe no physical Sony presence in the state.
bassmonkeee 02-22-08, 06:44 PM I've never paid tax on anything I've bought that I'm aware of.
DubBucket 02-22-08, 08:48 PM I've never paid tax.. which is strange because I'm sure Sony has offices here in Washington. Hrm, I haven't bought anything recently though. Maybe I'll give it a quick look.
Edit - Nope. Still no tax. (knock on wood)
so's your face 02-22-08, 09:19 PM always been taxed
Protopet 02-22-08, 11:34 PM Never been taxed.
How much was tax?
Never. I live in Oregon no sales tax here. In fact I argued with Dell about this several times. There are other companies that have a presence in 50 states. What I was told about one item I bought on the net and shipped to NY was that sales tax is based on where it was shipped. I believe while there maybe clear laws on this or some standards, there is a bit of wrong doing based on the confusion. I am a bit of a cynic so I believe some co's are scamming and charging sales tax when they probably shouldn't be.
Tom Imp 02-23-08, 02:57 AM Never been taxed.
How much was tax?
7% which came out to 14 cents for a single Rock Band song.
Granted it's not a lot, but it just seemed weird that I never noticed it before and even weirder now that some are saying they haven't been taxed while others have.
Ive never been taxed here in Michigan.
Cyborg6971 02-24-08, 03:52 AM I've been taxed on some items but not others in MN
First time I was taxed was on the STP-Sex type thinig RB add on.
I have bought dozens of items from the store. First time I was taxed. I would look into it.
<AS they cant tax you unless you live in the same state as the Company\store pays its own taxes.>
instantpop 02-24-08, 12:53 PM Not sure how it works everywhere else, but in MN you only get taxed on something that is considered a first time purchase. For example, I got taxed on High Velocity Bowling but not on the Warhawk expansion pack (I'd already been taxed for Warhawk on the initial purchase). Can't be taxed what is perceived to be the same product twice.
eddy_winds 02-24-08, 02:40 PM I've never paid tax. (SSD HD)
maximuslcd 02-24-08, 03:15 PM It may depend on what state your in? No tax here in Indiana

That's exactly the thing I bought that I was taxed on as well. :)
Tom Imp 03-14-08, 12:26 AM Okay, so I bought 4 more Rock Band songs yesterday. 2 of them had no tax on them and two of them did. This really makes no sense to me now.
When I contacted Playstation support, they said it had to do with state sales tax, but that's obviously not true if some items are taxed and others aren't.
Anyone have any clue about this since support at PS obviously has no clue?
I looked up my most recent PSN purchase and I was charged tax. It was the correct amount also. I'm in Illinois.
I was taxed on Tekken DR and flOw but not on any of the Motorstorm dlc.
