I know this thread is going to sound critical, but are we ever going to see MMA of a higher caliber on HDNet again? It was basically a minor league, but at least there were some skilled fighters when they showed the fights out of California (the WEC if I recall correctly).
Tonight's main event had a moment that shouldn't happen in even the most amateur bout. The bell was clearly heard on the broadcast. The fighters relaxed for a moment and so did the referee. A full 5 seconds after they all just hovered, a very effective downward forearm was delivered. The ref (Herb Dean) claimed he didn't hear the bell which wasn't true since he flinched as it happened. Why wasn't the time keeper ringing the bell again? Why wasn't Dean counting down from the 10 sec clap in his head?
It's bush league results like this which make me want to turn off HDNet for good re: MMA. Not that long ago a broadcast showed a decision being read wrong and the loser being announced as the winner.
I dunno, maybe I'm just spoiled and expect national broadcasts to be of a higher caliber than what I can see at the corner gym.
The picture looked good, though. Various hues of red were captured quite vividly in easily the best fight of the night.
