I'm looking for a simple/basic HD recorder (around $500) and I've found two possibilites: Echostar TR-50 or the TVIX PVR M-4110SH. By simple I mean the ability to record HD TV OTA (cable or satellite not required) to a hard drive, playback, and then delete. Record via ATSC EPG or manual timer. The M-4110SH is available now with an optional 500GB hard drive. The TR-50 will available around July of this year.

One option high on the list is the ability to skip commercials or skip forward 30 seconds.
Did I read something wrong on the capability of these two items.

Currently I'm using an ATSC tuner card in my compuer to record and playback.

Anyone know of anything else? From what I've been researching there isn't much available.

Thanks. Enjoy this site.

The most popular OTA HD DVR is the TivoHD, available today for $250 with monthly fees or $698 (http://www3.tivo.com/tivo-promo/show.do?pg=/buytivo/hdgift.html) without any fees.

The TivoHD and upcoming [Echostar] Sling TR-50 are your only options for dual-tuner units that can record one channel while you watch another, or record two different channels at the same time. Both feature 30s skip and make it easy to skip commercials.
