I am posting this in hopes that someone can answer a few questions that I have. I have searched the forums and have not found my answer. I might not be searching under the right topics though, so if someone can link me to the correct spot, it would be appreciated.
I recently bought an HDTV and want to buy an upconverting DVD player with HDMI. I have an HTIB (our apartment is small, so it works fine for now). It is a few years old, and has no HDMI hookups. Is there a way to hook the new player up to both the TV and my HDMI, so I can get the upconverting features on the DVD, and still use my surround sound from my older HTIB? I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this post, and I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

Short, answer, yes, you can run HDMI to the TV and something like optical or digital coaxial to the receiver if the receiver has the right inputs (you said HTIB, but some of the cheaper units don't have the right digital inputs.)

I do this setup with mine. I don't have an HDMI receiver, so all video goes direct to the TV and all audio to the receiver. Only downside is you have to switch at the TV and at the receiver to listen to a different source, but it's not a big deal to me.
