View Full Version : Putting floor speakers next to DLP, bad?

Hey guys, this is my first post on AVS... so here goes.

I have 2 (normal non shielded) JBL 315 floor speakers on both sides of my new Samsung 50 inch DLP. The question is, will it affect the set like they have with the old school tube (CRT) sets? I remember how they would cause bending and a rainbow effect on the screen. Does this apply to DLP's?

Thanks.

I have a 50" DLP with Definitive Technology speakers on stands sitting about six inches off either side of the TV. I don't see any problems, although I don't know if the speakers are shielded or not.

Cathode Ray Tubes are sensitive to magnetic fields. They even have complicated degaussing equipment built into them to realign after incidental encounters with magnets. I don't think that anything in a DLP TV would be negatively impacted by nearby magnets. I wouldn't open up the case and set a powerful magnet right next the micromirror device, but you shouldn't have anything to worry about concerning stray magnetic fields.
