I have recently acquired an xbox with RCA connection (red and white) for the audio. i have a cheaper receiver with only one rca input for audio. I currently have my cable box using this input. I have one of those rca cables that pigtails out the back.

In my past experiences when I use the pigtail cable with two inputs the device that is powered on works for audio. When I attempt to connect the xbox via the pigtail, and power on both the xbox and digital box, both audio feeds come through. This is not a problem as I just turn off the device I dont want. However if I power off the xbox, the cable box audio cuts out as well. Is there a way I can get around this, without having to unplug the Xbox RCA audio each time I want to use the cable box?

Yes - just buy a $10 switch box at Walmart.

Is this something I have to manually switch each time, or will it sense the incoming signal?

Thanks

For a $10 one, it'll probably be manual. I have seen them with remotes and ones that switch by latest signal received for about twice the price, maybe a tad more.

Thanks - I cant seem to find one that would use latest signal. Where would a good place be to look?

I last saw them in person at BestBuy, but that was a while ago.

Radioshack has this, but it's out of stock online. Might call the stores:

I bet with searching on the net you can find a dozen A/V accessories stores that have at least something you can use.

edit: Here's one. It has component video, so it's pricier, but I've seen regular composite and S-Video models, too.

edit2: Even better, go to eBay and search "A/V switch." I just saw an auto switch for about $16-$20 shipped with Buy it now.
