View Full Version : Direct TV On Demand BETA Launched
markom911 02-24-08, 11:51 PM Surprised I didn't see a thread on this yet! It's BETA so browsing is a pain but seems pretty nice. Not as good as any cable provider but it is still very usefull. SD programs download quick but I haven't downloaded an HD program yet. Anyone else try? Any other opinions?
Tater71 02-25-08, 12:18 AM I recently did a wire connection. Decent amount of content so far. SD downloads aren't too bad. At least you can watch the program while it downloads. I thought I read somewhere that down the road you will be able to do series downloads which will be nice. Hopefully more HD programming will also be added.

You missed it, because it was launched a long time ago. October or November. It was in CE testing in August. It's nothing new.

I knew it was coming out since last Summer however this is the first time it showed up on my Direct TV receiver. I've owned this receiver since last Spring and haven't seen the option of OD until tonight.

I don't know what to tell you. It should have been there a long time ago.
chadmak09 02-25-08, 02:27 AM Hi guys,
I currently have a comcast cable. I enjoy the on-demand but wish there was more HD-content.
I have been thinking of going to Direct Tv.
I called them (direct TV)the other day to ask them some questions abot thier on-demand.
I was told that Direct TV's On-demand is just as good as/if not better than Comcasts.
Is this true?
I really love on-demand so I want to go with the provider with the most HD on demand content.
Does anyone know how many movies are on Direct TV on-demand and if it is better than Comcasts HD on-demand??
Thanks!!!

Not necessarily. I didn't get access until a week ago when my receiver finally upgraded to the latest software.

I wouldn't go that far. There's a lot of stuff up on it, but very little HD. It also takes awhile to download programs.

If you're going to pick a service provider based on On demand at this moment in time I would go with your local cable provider. Direct tv has more of a hybrid on demand system where you use your internet to download ondemand content. People who choose direct tv have been choosing it for the NFL package as well as the amount of regular HD channes they offer.
Jeff Edwards 02-25-08, 05:17 PM Directv On Demand has been available for the -20 series DVRs since the fall but didn't become available for the -21 series until recently.

There's already a thread about this. This is better than Charter On Demand, and I think it works well. Of course it depends on your DL bandwidth. I haven't found any free HD to try, but the SD stuff is fine.

But he's obviously talking about an HR20, since he said he's had it since last spring. The HR21 wasn't released until fall.
