I hope cable/dish companies allow customers to make their own package of channels.

Dish has 40 HD channels for $29.99. Many people don't want this package because it is missing one or two channels they want. Some have said "If only they included a childrens cartoon channel". Others have said "If only they included Sci-Fi". No two people have exactly the same taste.

Imagine this price structure. Cable/Dish gives a pool of 100 basic tier channels to chose from. The first 10 channels are $19.99. The next 10 are $14.95. And so on. I bet there are many OTA people who would jump on this offer to add an extra 10 or 20 channels.

What's your top 10 channels that you most watch? What channels would you include in your package?

My top 10-

ESPN HD (sports)
E! (too much good stuff like Sunset Tan and Girls Next Door)
SLEUTH (I love old detective series)
SOAP (older 80's shows like Dallas)
VH1 (shows like My Fair Brady)
TNT HD (sports, shows like Las Vegas)
DISCOVERY HD (Man vs. Wild)
AMC (old movies)
UNIVERSAL HD (movies in HD)
SPIKE (UFC)

I'd rather have 10 channels I watch, than have 50 channels I don't watch. Most of the stuff I like is older movies.

Since this fourm caters to the HD crowd, I'll list my favorite HD channels

ESPN HD
HD Theater
National Geographic HD
Food Network HD
Animal Planet HD
History Channel HD (if only half of their programming wasn't in the infamous Stretch-o-vision)
HD Net
HD Movies
HBO HD
NFL Network HD

If I had Trevel Channel in HD, I'd be giddy beyond belief. And if there was a dishonorable mention, it would be TBS HD, hands down.

1. BBC World
2. HDNet/HDNet Movies
3. HD Theater
4. KCBS/KCAL (CBS/IND, both O&O by CBS) [mostly local news, KCAL for Dodgers baseball as well]

6. FSN Prime Ticket HD (for Dodgers baseball)
7. Comedy Central (Daily Show/Colbert), KNBC (NBC), KTLA (CW) [Everybody Hates Chris]
8. IFC (although I don't get this channel anymore, probably will when FIOS gets IFC HD)

Your 10 channels and everybody elses 10 channels would be different. If there's 50 HD channels out there, everyone should receive all 50.

USA ------------ Don't have yet
FX -------------- Don't have yet
Spike ----------- Don't have yet
HDNet Movies
Universal HD ----- Don't have yet
ESPN
HDNet

The last 2 would be 2 of the Premium channels (TMC, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz and their other channels) but I currently don't have plans to subscribe to them but some of my family and friends have them, but haven't spent enough time to see which has the most movies I would watch.

TBS, TNT, and Cartoon Network would have been on the list but since they stretch the picture I don't watch the HD channel. If a channel distorts the picture it will not be on my list.

The 3 upcoming Disney owned channels may have made it but they are not available yet.

I did not Include Locals as they are a given. The only one I don't have is The CW which I do want.

It's funny, I keep hearing here about how only "30% of the viewers watch ESPN", yet nearly everyone in this thread has it listed in their top 10 - certainly more than 30%.

At any rate, here's my list - in no particular order:

- ABC
- CBS
- Fox
- HDNET
- HDNET Movies
- USA
- SciFi
- Discovery
- FX
- MGM

I'd trade out Fox and MGM for Turner Classic Movies and AMC if I got them in HD.
