I am having an issue in which the television's picture looks like it's smudging or smearing in dark areas. For example, when watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on Blu-ray (PS3), the maze toward the end of the movie is full of dark parts. During the fast action scenes, it's almost impossible to watch because of the constant smudging that is happening. I don't recall it being like that in the past.

Also, I have the TV set to have black bars on the left and right sides when there's a non-HD program showing. While watching Directv, quite often there's a rainbow that appears just off the right side's black bar.

Any idea what's up with these problems?

I also recently added an HDMI switch to the mix, haven't tested without it yet so unsure of whether that could be a problem or not. Anyone heard of any issues with those? It's a Monoprice HDX-401E.

Nobody's seen this before huh? Hmm, wonder if it's the switch then. I'll take it out later and see if that helps.

So it IS the switch. ::sigh:: Can anyone recommend a better HDMI switch that doesn't screw up the picture with smudging?? If I got a receiver that has HDMI in, would it have a smudging issue as well?
