Using a box's passthru to feed a digital TV?

I've got a digital TV in my living room (don't get excited, it's got a cathode ray picture tube and is SD only...just has a built-in digital tuner), and i've got a converter box feeding a recorder.

Would I be able to run the antenna into the converter box and from there feed the TV?

If the passthru would let a TV's analog tuner work, would it also let the TV's DIGITAL tuner work?

I don't want to go messing with all the wiring before knowing there's a chance.

Anyone know?

Need Help Connecting Digital Converter Box to VCR Using R/W/Y Composite Connectors

I am using an OTA antenna. I have an analog VCR and a HD digital TV. I am attempting to connect a Zinwell ZAT-970A (with event timer) analog converter box to my VCR using composite R/W/Y RCA connectors. I want to be able to record one channel on the VCR while watching another channel on the digital TV.

Current connection attempt: I have the coax antenna cable coming out of the wall into a splitter. A coax cable from one leg of the splitter is attached directly to "antenna in" on the TV. A coax cable from the other leg of the splitter is connected to the "antenna in" of the converter box. R/W/Y RCA cables from the "out" of the converter box go to the "in" of the VCR. R/W/Y cables from the "out" of the VCR go to the "in" of the digital TV. Additionally, I have a DVD and Receiver connected to the TV via a HDMI cable. Doesn't work. I can't get the menu of the converter box to appear or play the VCR. If, however, I replace the R/W/Y cables with coax cables, disconnect the splitter leg that goes to directly to the TV, and connect a coax from the VCR "out" to the "antenna in" of the TV. It works. The problem with that is I need the TV to work independently (thus the use of the splitter) so that I can watch one channel while recording another.

Cannot figure out why connecting using R/W/Y composite cables is not working. Any ideas would greatly by appreciated. Thanks.

Sunkey SK801ATSC, how to remove programmed channels

I have a Sunkey SK801ATSC. I programed the channels with auto scan. It included some channels that don't exist and missed some that do. I tried manual scan it added some of the channels auto missed. But it also added some channels that come in too poorly to be of use. I can't figure out how to remove programmed channels. Does anyone here know?
Thanks,
Chas

This box does indeed have the front display, dim but real.
It is all black, metal case, with louvers (not vents) top and bottom.
It has a 7 day epg, S-video and a good remote.

It doesn't seem quite as sensitive as the Channelmaster.
The only thing I don't like so far is the lack of the Zoom 1 like the CM.
It has three settings with one being like Zoom 2.
The picture looks very good, but seems to have hotter color, so that may be altering my impression.

Greets,

I've identified the following coupon supported ATSC tuners as being available:

AccessHD DTA-1080D & DTA-1080U **advised against**

AirLink101 ATVC101 & ATVC102 **picture and reception issues**

Artec T3A-ATSC & T3AP-LS & T3APro **related to Zenith**

Craig CVD-508 **apparently much the same as the Suntek**

Digital Stream DSP-6500C & DSP-7500T & DSP-7700P

Dish Network DTVpal Plus **back ordered**

INET SSR-1921 **apparently rebadged ST-8**

Magnovox RTB-110MW9 **advised against**

MicroGem MG-2000 **excessive early failure reports**

Sunkey SK-801 ATSC **apparently much the same as the Craig**

Tivax STB-T8

Zinwell ZAT-970A

I'm thinking the Tivax STB-T8 might be my best shot. (My primary considerations are ability to pull in stations, picture quality, and reliability -- would like to have had S-Video out, but that seems kind of hopeless at this point.) Any thoughts?

Thanks for any assist :)

PS. I've seen Tivax T8 and T9 described as top third video and audio quality, whereas the Zinwell is in the middle third. If Zenith is in the top third also, and Artec uses the same front end, are they equivalent performance? If so, which models? Also, does analog bypass really matter anymore?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone provide some advice on which converter box to purchase? My sister will be ending her cable service soon. Her govt coupon will be expiring soon and she's not sure which two to purchase. Most of the local stores no longer carry any of the converter boxes.

Below are the 3 CECB I found Amazon currently selling and problems I have read from the posts
Zinwell ZAT-970A (timer problem)
Digital Stream DSP7700P (runs hot...overheat)
Tivax STB-T8

Anyone know what is the difference between the Digital Stream DSP7700P vs DTX9950F?
