I have a Samsung plasma PN42B450.

I calibed it with Avia 2 using component cables.

With the cell light at 10, on movie mode, the contrast is now at 85/100.

Contrast has always been a witch for me to adjust. The damn thing is very difficult to set.

Anyway, is it too high, risk of damaging my preciousssssss plasma tv?

I have a Spyder 3 meter on a tripod. I am calibrating a RS-1 with a Lumagen. Is the consensus to place it in front of the lens or get a reading off the screen? I figured since the screen is a 1.3 gain that I should take the reading off the screen. Where is everyone placing the meter so it is not reading its own shadow.

DVE pattern for calibration of color decoding

I used the DVE Blu-ray disc to tune my Bravia (KDL-40Z4100).

It works really well for most tests.

When it comes to the color pattern, however, things get more tricky.

Using the blue filter to have all blue areas be of equal intensity is fairly easy. I was able to do that using only the Color control.

Switching to the green and red filters, things get odd.

When I switch to the green filter, I have to adjust Hue to G8 to make all green areas be of equal intensity.
But, using the green filter, the blocks that should be dark/black are not quite so, no matter what settings I use. (they are lighter or show some tinge that makes them not look as black/dark)

With the red filter, I need to make a reverse adjustment of the Hue control to have all red areas be of equal intensity/uniform.
But, after making that adjustment, using the green filter again reveals that green areas are no longer of equal intensity.

My question: What am I doing wrong and what should I do to fix it?

If you suggest using DVE blu-ray will there a be a significant difference?

Do you guys, the professional calibrator, schedule appointments at 4 am PST in the morning with a customer and wait for the test pattern to run to calibrate the customer's tv?

is that more accurate to use than a calibration disc? I noticed the built in LG patterns are brighter looking than the calibration disc?

My 670u has a scanning backlight to get the 240hz effect. I tend to like the video processing a little better with it on, even though most reviews say to leave it off. Regardless, it should be turned on for sports since it does appear to help motion resolution in tests.

When the 240hz is cut on, the tv dims a bit, and I'm wondering if this can just be compensated with the backlight, or is the scanning backlight messing with anything else that has already been calibrated.

Set was professionally calibrated last week, with 240 scanning backlight off. Thanks for any insight to this tech, if anyone has the scoop.

I am from Europe, and I was wondering where I can buy some photometers online from USA.

I need photometer with cd/m2 scale measure, I have I1D2 and HCFR, but I need sensor that can measure below 0,01 cd/m2, for upcoming Panasonic models with Kuro technology. Below 0,0031cd/m2 like Kuro.

Any help?

Thanx in advance

I have my Samsung PN42B450 calibrated with Avia.

I adjusted the tv set by leaving the backlight setting in the middle, at 5 (it goes
from 1 to 10).

Have I done right, by calibrating at that backlight setting? Or should I redo the adjustments at 0 BL?

Help, plz.

I have read in a couple of places that Blu-Ray content is "mastered" - not sure that is the right word in this context - for a gamma of 2.4 or 2.5. Yet all of the calibrations I read about are still to the 2.2 target.

Is that because it is misinformation on the 2.4 target, or because most of the other content is for 2.2?

I just got a great deal on a Panny plasma and I was thinking of attempting to calibrate the THX mode to 2.4 and the Custom mode to 2.2. Does this make sense?

Can someone explain the patterns that look like spirals (circles) that move? Are they for motion settings?

Also, when calibrating colors, my set has advanced settings (color, tint, hue, saturation, value, gamma, temp with rgb levels...) I can set the basic color setting to any level, then go to fine tunes (hue, sat, value) and get all 3 colors to match.... My question is, since I can pretty much match RGB at any color level, where should I leave the basic color level setting? Does it make any difference at this point? ex...-4?-10?0? +4,+30...etc?
