I only had 1088 hours on the first bulb, but it still functions and throws a slightly dimmer image.... I am using the new bulb because of the 90 day warranty.
I pretty much have concluded that I need to NOT go with a table mount for my JVC RS-25 projector. So I need some advice on ceiling mounts for this RS-25. My ceiling is 7 1/2 ft., and I will have a 17' throw onto a 106" (diag.) 1:78 screen.
Can you folks give me one or preferably two BEST mounts for this application, please? OH, I could go with self-install, or pros if that'll get me a superior fit.
Thanks !

Hello fellow avs'ers.
I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this for me. I just recently sold my Epson 6500UB and am looking at getting either the Mits HC6800 or the Epson 8500UB. I generally used the 4:4 pulldown on the 6500UB for movies which of course the HC6800 doesn't do. Would the 2:2 pulldown on the HC6800 give essentially the same results? I have no way of seeing a Mits in action where I live so any help would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps someone out there was able to compare a 6500UB to an older Mits HC6500/HC5500 at some point in the last year.
Thanks so much.

Epson 6500 vs 8500

Hi

Here is my confusion. I am contemplating between buying Epson 6500 vs 8500. Epson 6500 UB is $350 cheaper and comes with a replacement lamp. That is like $650 worth. As I understand:

6500 UB: Higher Lumen Output, Avg FI, Needs Calibration for brighter modes to show good color balance

8500UB: Slightly lower Lumen Output, Better FI, Better Calibrated Colors out of the box, slightly better blacks

As mentioned above, FI and better colors out of the box are positives of 8500 over 6500. But during this process, the best mode brightness has gone down. Is this a concern ?

Next ..Is FI so much better that it is worth spending $350 more ?

My major confusion is…is 8500 so much better than 6500 that I need to spend $350 and no spare lamp ?

Thanks

Am I the only AVS fan who is ocd enough to be bothered by the Epson 8500ub and even Panasonic 4000 continuing to be featured in the over $3,000 section rather than the under 3 grand section? Especially with the MSRP now established at $2499 and $1900 respectively. I would advocate we don't need to bounce between sections to keep up with comments in dueling threads on these and perhaps other models I do not follow. I suggest we either retitle the current section's dollar amounts or move the threads for these models to under 3 grand section.

My personal preference would be to retitle sections given the performance per dollar changes that have occured as technology improves over the past few years. There seems to me to be a somewhat natural break at about 2 grand now and another around 7 or 8 grand. Any other ideas?

Hi,

I would like to start this thread dedicated for those HC6800 users that have calibrated their units and wish to share their settings. I have not received mine yet, but will post mine once completed.

Here are some calibration settings from a few users:

I atually think these are close to yours. By using the iris (which is silent by the way), I must not have to reduce brightness like you did. Notice the contrast R and B had to be turned up- this eliminated the green push.

OK, here are my newest calibration settings and I can tell you after watching my favorite team (Alabama), who I have seen many times live, this really nails the colors for me. Alabama's red is crimson, which is a far cry from regular red. On many sets, this becomes a dark red. I have an actual helmet in my media room and I can say these settings give me the correct color.

Auto Iris: Auto (mode 5)- interestingly, I played with this while adjusting black levels and it does a great job but doesn't crush blacks. I would suggest everyone try it, it really does an awesome job.

I have the opportunity to get a JVC RS10 for $500 more than the Panny AE4000 or $300 more than the Epson 8500. I'm planning on a long throw of 23' to a 119" High Power screen. I watch a mix of sports/TV and movies. This is a multipurpose room with brown walls, white ceiling. lighter carpets, but with full window light control.

I previously had a Sharp 20k matched to a High power and loved the combination. There are not a ton of projectors that can handle my long throw requirement, so I had narrowed it down to the Panny and Epson based on performance and price. Now that the RS10 is on my radar ... will the extra brightness and better contrasts be worth the upgrade? Any opinions out there?

I currently have a Sharp XVZ12000 going to a 110 inch screen that I am thing about upgrading. I need a 17' throw distance. Looking for something that does not have to have $500 bulb replaced every 1200 hours, but I do NOT want to lose any picture quality. Which models should I start looking at?

Looking to get the VW85, but I don't know where to get one for a good price in Canada (Toronto, GTA) My usual dealer doesn't carry Sony and is trying to push me towards the RS25, but I think the VW85 may be a better projector for me. (higher ANSI, sharper, DLP like picture) I just don't know where to get one. Anyone able to help out. Thanks.
