Optoma HD806 and an artifacting/flickering issue

Hey!

I have a beautiful Optoma HD806...with a glaring issue.

When hooked up to my shuttle HTPC, I get this random...flickering/artifacting....and it's driving me insane. It seems to get worse the longer it is turned on. This is via either HDMI or DVI.

I have no idea how to describe it. It flashes for a instant, primarily top left of the screen, but gets progressively worse eventually expanding to the entire screen (but always worse in the top left)

Is this a configuration problem with my HTPC? I replaced the HTPC with a identical motherboard/video and the same issue still persists.

It's a Shuttle SG45H7 which uses a Intel GMA X4500 graphics chip (which is pretty damn powerful I might admit) running Windows 7 (I also tried Windows XP and Windows Vista)

I already sent the projector in for repairs...they sent it back saying they replaced a faulty color wheel, but the problem is still there. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Looking to pick up a HD calibration disk for my new AE4000. However, I haven't had much luck of finding a place in Canada for a reasonable price. My current Avia disk just doesn’t cut it.

Hi guys, i know you have probably heard this question a million times before but this is the reason why i love this board.....for all the useful information which is shared on it. I am currently in the process of building a new house and i have a room which i intend to use to entertain "the boys" or watch movies with the wife. It will mainly be sports and video games when the boys are over though. I have been looking at the Epson 8500UB,1080UB and the Panny 4000U for projectors and the Carada 2.35:1 Scope screens. Here are my constraints:

1) I have budgeted $3K for the projector. Total budget hopefully no more than $5K.
2) My room will be 19'x15'x9'. There will be two 4'x4' sash windows on one of the 19' walls and only one entrance to the room. Otherwise the room is entirely enclosed.
3) The room will not be fully light controlled but the windows will have blackout curtains on them for day viewing although most viewing will be done at night. There will be a flourescent light on the ceiling fan in the middle of the room and one light on each of the walls excluding the front wall.
4) The front wall will be black velvet covered and the other walls will be a dark color (possibly blue grey) and the ceiling will be white.
5) The throw distance will either be 14' shelf mounted or 12' ceiling mounted. I prefer shelf mounted though.
6) There will be a dark colored carpet on the floor also.
7) I am looking at either 120" or 136" 2.35:1 screen. What type of screen gain would I need 1.0 or 1.3?
8) I am coming from a Pioneer KRP 500M which is absolutely stunning to say the least. I am aware that a projector (in my price range) would not be able to replicate this image but as close as it can get to it i would definitely appreciate.

I look forward to hearing the suggestions put forward by some of the experts on this forum. If there are other suggestions which are out of my budget or not mentioned please feel free to say, especially if it is just a bit over my budget, i may be able to squeeze it in.

I've been looking to get a 1080p front projector, but every one I've seen have appeared to be as big or bigger than my Harman Kardon AV247 A/V receiver.

What are some choices in 1080p projectors that have a high WAF factor by being small. The only one I've seen that seems really small is the Projectiondesign Action! M25, but I cannot find it for sale.

Are there some small 1080p projectors in general circulation?

Thanks!:)

Recommendations on sub 1K 1080P projector

As of this date can I get some opinions on which sub 1K 1080P projector is leading.

Benq w1000
Vivitek H1080FD
Optoma HD20

Also, I know the Mitsubishi HC3800 is slightly above the 1K, but if it were to go to the 1K level how would it compare the above 3 projects.

Thanks

Time to start a official thread of Mits HC3800.

Received mine today (replaced a Optoma HD70).

Without any tweakings the increase in contrast, brightness and resolution (expected 1080p > 720p) is visible against my old HD70.

with my XBOX360, no visible input lag difference...played a little FIFA 10 and made the test with the "famous" Megamen 8.

Please put here all the tweaks and setup tips.

Need Projector for Conference Room

Hi everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to look at my post. I’ve be using this forum for years now for my personal HT stuff and have decided to reach out for some help on a project I’m working on at my job (I’m an IT admin).

Background:-Management decided that we need a ceiling mounted projector in our conference room, with the appropriate wiring ran to the nearby wall and attached to a wall plate. Instead of getting a professional installer I decided that I can probably handle the task by myself to save some money and get some hands-on experience with projectors (never dealt with mounting them before but I have a nice Home Theater setup at home that I built over the years with the help from AVSForum). Primarily the only thing that the projector will be used for is presentations from a laptop or a desktop through a HDMI or a VGA cord, and sometimes maybe playing a DVD or a Video file from the same PC or Laptop. At this point there are no plans to attach a dedicated DVD player, cable box or any other input device. The conference room has drop ceilings with about 3-4 feet of work space above the drop ceiling. The screen that we will be using is a portable screen that folds out and stands on a tripod attachment stand. At this point we are not looking into any other screen types and will be using what we have.
Specifications:-The only specifications that I was given for purchasing a projector were that it must have an HDMI and a VGA input and a remote. Also audio is not taken into consideration. Besides those factors the only other thing that needs to be taken into consideration is the price, the lower the better.
The thing that I am looking for is advice or any suggestions on a projector that I should look into getting and some instructions/suggestions/useful links on how to mount a projector in a drop ceiling environment. I’m not really too concerned with cable management and running the wires to the nearby wall as I have plenty of experience in this and shouldn’t be too much of a problem. But I do need some help on picking out a projector and how to actually go about mounting it up on the ceiling. One of my biggest concerns is that I looked above the drop ceiling and the nearest truss is fairly far away from where I wanted to mount the projector. Is there a way to mount the projector on the actual drop ceiling without having to attach it to the structural support above the initial layer of the drop ceiling?

I really appreciate any and all help/suggestions I could get. Let me know if I am missing any information.

Thank you for your time,
Eugene

Hi guys. I'm hoping this is the right place to post but I apologize in advance if it's not.

A friend of mine is trying to put together a projector setup to display football and basketball games onto the wall of an adjacent building. He is discussing the idea with the owner of the building to improve the wall for viewing purposes. It's currently a brick wall painted white but he needs to know what can be done to improve it for viewing other than sanding down rough areas. For example, are there paints made specifically for this kind of application.

As for the projector itself, I told him(and correct me if I'm wrong) but he would probably need only a 720p projector since this will be for sports only. But most of the reading I've done has been for projectors intended to be used in home and this is outside of my element. Basically he wants to project a 20'x12' image onto a wall approximately 50' away. This will only be used at night.

Can you guys point me in the right direction? I'd really appreciate any help you can offer.

I know there are a few "Find me a Low cost Projector on the cheap" threads but let me just ask about this type of PJ.

The 1024*768 business lcd projector with 400:1 con.

I know (((400 To 1)))contrast...but could someone who has used this type of PJ for movie watching tell me just what it is like ???

You can find them for very cheap but does the 400:1 make movie watching realy poor ? Or is it still much much better than using a small TV for movie viewing?

I was reading somewhere about the latest upcoming for projectors. It recommends CPU + cheaper projector + Software + Wireless... a combination that is supposed to make things so much cheaper.

It's also supposed to be that the wireless can do 1080P HD video streaming as well, and it's called ProVEOS.

Heard that the software can even support Mac.

It looked fantastic to me, but I can't quite understand (since I'm not much of a tech person, I only love to watch movies :p), does it mean that this device is actually a portable one that can be attached to ANY projector and make miracles of allowing 1080P HD video streaming?

projector placement

Hello all. I am constructing a dedicated theatre and have a question about projector placement. I have the throw charts for the projectors that I am considering below.

In no particular order and for a 106" diag image min and max values listed

Sanyo PLV Z3000 10' 9" to 21' 4"
Mitsubishi HC 3800 10' 10" to 16' 1"
Epson HC 8100 10' 6" to 22' 3"
Benq W 6000 12'6" to 18' 9"

Is it better to place the projector closer to the minumum or maximum throw distance? One way gives you a brighter image but I can't remember which.

Thanks,
