Running into space limitations for page size...

So, adding new page 2 above that will be linked from members reviews....

Saving a little space on page one for "special configurations"

Like Geoff's Zone 2 & 3 configuration

Will be adding RTessi415 zone 2 configuration there and eldithomaso siruis tuner impression.

Thanks guys!

Here is something that has been bothering me for some time now about the SC-07, and I'm sure its user (me) error, BUT...

Although my fiance doesn't mind 99% of what I have been working on with the new setup & even went as far as saying she loved it the other day when watching some old VHS tapes and moving between bedroom and living room, the only WAF that i really have to deal with is late night listening because she works stock market hours on the west coast so her alarm rings at 4:50AM and is usually asleep by 9:00 latest...

That being said, I have purchased a pair of Pioneer Wireless headphones and use the digital out from the SC-07 to power them in the living room. My issue is that I can't seem to get the source out optical connection on the back to produce any sound, although all my HDMI connections have paired coax or optical audio so that it can work. Instead I end up using Z3 for night listening, and either muting Z1 or turing the volume the whole way down so that if i forget that my headphones have the volume on them, the noise doesn't come blaring back if i use my remote...

any thoughts on the source out? if i remember correctly the manual states that its exactly what it sounds like, but again, i could easily be mistaken.

Thanks!

Are you talking about a remote that came with the Sirius kit or the SC-07 remote? You are aware that there is a sliding door at the bottom of the SC-07 remote, under which there is a number pad?
???

Dan.

_dan:

Heck I can't think of how many times I have opened that little door on the SC-07 remote and looked at those keys. I am always looking at the surround lettering on the background for functions and ignoring the letters embssed on top of the keys. For the life of me I didn't relize there were number keys there.... GEEZE! Thanks.

I feel so stupid now...
Before Sirius I never had a need to use those numbers. Glad to know they are on the remote.

With the Wife in the background it's a wonder I can even find the remote... "I'm reading here can you do that later..." 'No dear it's electronic and I have to be sure it all works since I just hooked it up to the receiver'.

Ugh.

Don't forget my amp impressions vs the 49TXi.

And thanks for such a good job with this thread.

Why not use the headphone jack? You can even get headphone surround on this baby... (page 37 of the manual).

You must have these:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...-DIR800C?tab=B

Very nice.

In your case you have to use the recording out option for optical recorders. Zone 3/source out (page 24 of the manual). So you've got it right.

Another option might be to go to the front panel and use the speaker button to turn off the speakers before listening. That way your volume control should work and other settings stay exactly the same and you can't possibly blare the mains to wake anyone up.

(Pity the remote does not have this feature unless you program it from an older Pioneer remote that has it). My 49TXi did and it was so much more efficient than opening the door and pressing the button.

I note that the headphone jack when active does not turn off the speaker B configuration. Guess that is a zone issue also.

No one knows at this time.. but:

1. I can't see Pioneer making their newest AVRs obsolete in less than 9 months (SC-07 released to market 8/07, new Blu-Ray BDP-23FD to be released April 09)

2. I can't see Pioneer releasing a new "feature" (MCH PQLS) and not have anything to play it on...

When the PQLS feature was press released in May last year for the BDP-05/51FD, the SC-05 and SC-07 were announced at the same time.. it was clear in the press releases you needed this Blu-ray and this AVR to utilize the PQLS function..

Pure speculation at this point.. and I'm thinking/hoping at this point our units would be compatible

EDIT:

Though looking at this post from Chris (Walkamo) of Pioneer, my 2 cents may be only worth .001 cents.....

awaiting reply from Chris on the Blu-Ray forum...

Hi Nick,

The Hi-res soundtracks must be decoded in the Player to PCM for the PQLS Multi-channel to work...

Plus a new AV receiver capable of this feature is needed as well..

No new TV required....

Those are the exact headphones i have
and i concur, they are indeed, very nice.

Although I love the idea of turning off Speaker A, only given my circumstances I think I'll stick to the Z3 setting that I use. I think I might just reprogram my remote to go to a competely seperate page for headphone use so that the volume is never an issue, as I find that to be easier than trying to use speaker on/off which I know will possibly cause issues with my fiance or visiting people should i forget to re-engage the speakers after late night listening. Plus personally, I'd rather program a remote for an hour or two than the hassle of getting someone to work something that I try to make simple enough that anyone can walk into my place and just use something without getting confused, lost or flustered... And its good practice anyways!

Thanks for the help!

Hi

Finally got my sc-07 today I have a bright house samsung hd box i am using hdmi to the receivers and from the receivers to my Panasonic 1080p plasma tv. But i am having a problem when i turn the tv it work for about 20 second and the screen goes blank and it keeps repeating but when i use the same hdmi and connect directly to the tv it works fine

what am i doing wrong please help thanks

Like Juan said, jay4252.. it sounds like a handshake issue.. but there's a possibility it may be a cable issue.. have you tried a different HDMI cable?

Another thing.. you may want to try going component from your cable box to the SC-07 and letting the SC-07 convert it to HDMI to your display.. The PQ should be the same.

Let us know how it goes.

I have been think for a while to use the speaker that came with my PDP-5020FD as a back surround speaker and run it through my SC-05. Any but who has experience with this or any thoughts please chime in. I don't want to wait another few years till I finish the basement for 7.1 surround. First will this work, or will the SC-05 just blow this speaker up? I know that I don't have the ideal speaker layout as it stands right now. From what I understand the surround and back speakers should be equal height, I will probably be putting this speaker on a box or two to get it up to at least the back of the couch height. See pics posted in the impressions section post #1. Any thoughts on this would be great.

Tergon:

I would advise against same. Even with proper calibration a transient surround signal could easily put out well over the 10-15 watts of power handling that TV/Pio/Plasma speakers can handle. Also the monitor speaker will generally not match your other speakers and sound terrible by comparison.

You would be better served by buying two inexpensive speakers (try Circuit City's blow out or BB even) for your Surround.

What do you have up front and for surrounds now? We can probably recommend some close to timbre matched stand-ins that will work. You can get a pair from Sony for as little as $44 or a pair of Definitive Tech (small guys) for $150 or so. Well worth it in my opinion - especially if us USE PLIIx or THX Surround Modes or even DTS:neo6

As for speaker height check out Dolby.com, DTS.com and THX.com they all have great tips for speaker placement though they differ a bit depending on the format. All surround speakers should be paired in height and angle.

THX wants them close together - Dolby and DTS put them at other positions and distances. They always are the same height (SBR and SBL and also SR and SL) and if possible should be equidistant from the main listening position.

Bottom line I can't spend another penny in the foreseeable future on anything electronic, I am expecting a baby in March some time, and have spent a fortune upgrading the home theater system for my self. WAF is in the toilet to say the least. I don't doubt that the PDP-5020FD speaker will not match in timbre or such to my Polk R-10 as surrounds or Infinity IL-40 as main's and Energy center. This is just me goofing around to see what would be possible. One suggestion from the Rep that sold me the SC-05 would be to use the low level per out from the SC-05 in to the PDP-5020FD and use the existing amp in the TV to drive the speaker that way no chance of blowing it up and once the sound is balanced I should be good to go.

I was hoping the current PQLS amplifiers would work with the 23FD. If the amp is receiving LPCM, what does it matter whether the source is attached to video or not? All it has to do is "send speed up a bit / slow down a bit" commands, just as it did before.

The reason that it shouldn't matter is that its the video that is now attached to the audio, rather than the other way round. The amplifier doesn't need to know - the player takes care of the (v. difficult) AV synchronisation. Respect to Pioneer for pulling that one off, whatever we need to do.

I am thinking about getting the "anti-mode 8033" for my sub. Anyone using it with their SC? How do you like it? Would I run anti-mode first then MCACC, or the other way around?

Thanks

You'd really be a lot better off using a set of low priced speakers that cost around $30-$50, or possibly even less, than trying to use the 5020's speakers like that.

Yes I realize that you said you can't spend anything more. But if you save up any loose change for a few weeks, you probably should be able to come up with something like these for $50 or less.

Johnla.....I'm with you on this one. Save up some loose change and it wouldn't be too hard to come up with a better set up.

Don't do it.

1) that speaker won't match up well at all. Ew.

2) The only place to put it would be in the window, seriously, your WAF might be low now, that will make it worse.

3) You don't have anywhere near enough room behind the couch to keep from localizing it. Things will not be "behind" you, they will be coming from that speaker right there, very very obviously.

4) the surround sound stage will be much worse than what you have.

5) If you must, make sure you blow the speaker up, so that it stops making noise immediately.

7.1 is not a magical number. And in your environment, 5.1 is fine. Seriously, save for a sub. And when you get to the basement, if you still have the same sub, buy the sub before more rears.

Mind you, I'm a nutbag who put surround backs that were identical to my fronts because I could hear the rear stage collapse going from sides to rears.

And my wife asks about them about once a year, "if they aren't hooked up can't you put them somewhere else?" Hon, I didn't buy those to sit there, they are hooked up. "But I never hear them." Exactly, that's why I bought them.

P.S. Tergon, I just realized that I've cracked on your sub 3 or 4 times in this thread. Just wanted to let you know that's because you have such a clean set up (love the wood contrast) with the awesome SC-05.... and that huge open space with that little tiny sub. It's like looking at a Monet painting, except part of it is 10 feet below water.

If you can, go out to Radio Shack and get an SPL meter. And, measure the SPL in your seating position. If you don't like what MCACC is doing, you can set the levels manually using the SPL meter.

What's the size of your room?

GOV....if you get one, please leave your impressions. I've been sort of thinking of one, too.
