Samsung DB1200 delayed and no 24 Hz

I was just updated by Samsung that the BD-1200 is delayed to the end of June '07.

Further, it will output 1080p at 60fps and no announcement for an upgrade to 24 Hz.

Robert

Will you be carrying the Samsung? Do you know anything about the audio codecs?

Damn and I was really looking at this player as a possible buy...that leaves what..the lower end Sony and the Panny 10a as the next players out? Both which have no solid release dates...no solid info on audio codec support...UGH! This is really frustrating to those of us looking for a 2GN BD player.

Looks like the PS3 just went back to the top of the list

Does the delay to June mean it will have to be profile 1.1?

No upgrade to 24Hz?

I posted a link to the BD-P1200's manual and the BD-P1200 has a feature called "Movie Frame" that's selectable in the menu system. That option, when enabled, outputs at 24Hz. So either Samsung removed this feature after posting the manual online or your rep is misinformed.

Looks like $ony's announcement of a $600 player put a stop to this.

Where's the link? Is it to the US model? You may be correct, but the Samsung employee I spoke with is the BD trainer. Nothing would surprise me as I have been mis-informed before by even more reliable sources.

Yes and no. I do plan on carrying Samsung's BD-1200,but will not take pre-orders till I am sure of the actual delivery date. No information on the audio codec support, but I would think the audio codecs should be listed in the manual.

Thanks for posting the link to the manual RUR.

Hi Robert,

Information about the feature that I mentioned (Movie Frame) can be found on page 43. If you'll also scroll down to the bottom of that same page on the right hand side it lists the supported HDMI output resolutions and frame rates.

I also forgot to say thank you in my previous post for the updated info on the BD-P1200's delayed status. That info was appreciated.

Thanks, Robert. I'm not saying that the manual is necessarily right and your contact is necessarily wrong, though - after what we've seen during the last year, we should know anything is possible.

Digital Only Token? First I've heard of that. I'm not surprised though that there's a provision for it as I'm sure they want to move away from component video as soon as possible.

October may be true, but I am still being told the very end of June-July. I will speak with Samasung's highest level authority later today or tomorrow to get to the bottom of the delivery schedule and 1080p 24fps spec.

It should have been there from the beginning...

Even if you never ever touch a single game it is still the "best" and fastest BD player on the market. Use it's media player capability to show trailers and slideshows, listen to SACDs and enjoy full BD-J support later this year - nothing else on the market comes even close. Access and loading times are about 10x faster than my XA2.

In short: You will not be disappointed.

This is what I kind of dont understand....according to some the PS3 is the best BD player on the market. Except for maybe SD DVD playback is has more features and the best platform for upgrades, yet it is the cheapest player on the market. If this were true, why would anyone buy any of the stand alone players? Just for IR remote control?? For SD-Playback? I would think any first adopter would already have a fine upconverting player and having one additional remote around VS saving $500-600 bucks seems like a no brainer. I am not disputing your fact that I would not be dissappointed...it just does not seem to add up to me

well a lot of what you said is true, but there are also other factors why some people don't like the idea of a ps3 as their primary blu-ray player. it doesn't allow a lot of people to utilize the new-gen audio codecs if they don't have hdmi. some people will say just buy a new hdmi receiver they're cheap. that works for some, but people who have a top of line pre-amp/receiver that does everything else better than most receivers aren't going to trade that in just for hdmi inputs. in some sense there is the fear of that fact that it is still a game console, granted some use it for only blu-ray playback. i remember what happened to my ps2 with time and playing too many movies on it so i would prefer a stand alone unit myself. sd dvd playback is also big for others especially those that have big dvd collections like myself of movies that probably won't release on either format anytime soon. therefore, you would hope you would get the best of both worlds in this price range great sd and blu-ray playback. so i find myself like others kind of disappointed about the lack of information on the 2nd generation models. so as i result i just both casino royale on sd dvd, i mean i already have the other 20 on sd dvd what's 1 more

Samsung Executive Customer Relations has allocated a BDP-1200 to ship to me direct from the factory as soon as they are available (you can read details here if you're curious). I found out about the delay yesterday, but I couldn't get a new date. I called back today to get a date, and they indicated mid-to-late April. I'm supposed to call back on April 16 to get status.

Not sure if ECR is any more reliable than Robert's source, but at least it's another data point that may suggest the delay isn't as late as June. One can always hope.

Walter, not sure about 10x speed difference, but the XA2 loads fast enough for anyone's liking.

I am now being told the BD-P1200 will be released in April in very limited allocations and it will likely support 1080p 24 Hz and 60 Hz.

I believe my latest update is the most accurate.

Robert...will you take any pre-orders and be part of this allocation?

Also...I know this has been beat to death...but does it support the new audio codecs?
