The Matrix hits HD DVD May 22. BD release "later"
Here's the info
On May 22, Warner Home Video releases The Ultimate Matrix Collection and The Complete Matrix Trilogy on HD DVD for $119.99 and $99.99, respectively. The studio plans to release “Matrix” titles on Blu-ray Disc later this year. I'm glad it's not a total HD release, but I wish the BD was being released at the same time. At this point, I prefer to buy the BD versions of dual format releases when I have that option. But in this case I'll probably be going HD DVD. Unless we hear that the BD release isn't more than a month or so later. I hope we hear something more about the BD sometime soon. Edit: Just FYI, I found the article linked on the front page of The Home Theater Forum. If you want, you can go to the main page of HTF and you'll see all the news articles that are provided by "Home Media Retailing". HTF has been using them for their front page news articles for quite a long time now. Last edited by seanbryan; 03-21-07 at 07:39 PM.. |

This had better have a lossless or uncompressed audio track when it hits BD (the HD DVD will, I'm sure).
Even though the BD was announced sine die, at least Warner is doing something. Now they just have to announce the Harry Potter films and I'll be more or less all set with regards to Warner (their big titles, at least).

At least we know the Blu version is coming out. Hopefully the delay means Blu supporters won't get a half-baked version compared to the HD-DVD release. |

Warners has always been semi-exclusive, this just continues the trend. It also is not that important.
As I have posted many times, I also don't think that these blockbusters of the past are that important to format building, especially when they are as expensive as this. The Matrix titles have been shipped and reshipped so many times that I am losing count. I only bought the first edition of the first movie anyway and I doubt that I will buy it again; your mileage may vary. My formula for building a format is: -- day and date releases of new titles -- attractively priced, solid catalog titles. [Look at the recent Amazon sale.] |

I am tired of waiting for BD to complete their package or whatever they are doing...so I will pick up this box set for HD DVD...8 discs and more than 35 hours of bonus material, in addition to three “Revisited” mini-features. Looks like a weekend party with the Matrix.

Is The Matrix important to format building? Well, it would definitely be on the "Top Ten Releases To Help Sell a High Def Format" list. To me, that means it is a fairly important title. But then I could care less about most new titles, so maybe my opinion doesn't mean much. |

You just better prey that its not a half-baked four month late version. Warner is having problems with the Blu-Ray format and not the HD-DVD format.

I guess I'll have to settle for POTC 1, Apocalypto, Smokey and the Bandit, 40 Year Old Virgin and over 30 hours of the Matrix. Whats a movie lover to do? ![]()

?What I meant was that I hope (as in for the sake of HD supporters) that the Blu-ray version will also get lossless audio and not lack any interactivity features. The decision to include PCM with the Departed seems to indicate that this may well end up being the case. I hope this further this clarifys my post... |

I just added this to my original post with an edit, but I figured I'd put it in the continuing discussion as well.
For what it is worth, I found this article linked on the front page of The Home Theater Forum. If you want, you can go to the main page of HTF and you'll see all the news articles that are provided by "Home Media Retailing". HTF has been using them for their front page news articles for quite a long time now. So it is a legitimate news source. |
