Customer Reports About Their Professional Calibrations

The first post in this thread a list of links to reports by owners about the results of having their RPTV, CRT, or FP displays professionally calibrated. The second post does the same thing for flat panel displays.

NOTE: The return of AVS from Huddler back to vBulletin caused some serious link problems especially in post number two. Thanks to work done by Woobieizer, I've just replaced all the links in posts one and two with corrected links. If anyone encounters a link that doesn't work, please PM me directly. Thanks Woobieizer.

Quote:

Some owners have posted their calibration reports in this thread, but it's much better for other owners if those reports are posted in a thread dedicated to the model display that's been calibrated.

The list was started in August of 2006, but includes a few reports done earlier. To have your report included in these lists, it's important to indicate who calibrated your display. Where possible, the lists are organized by model, and the AVS user name of the calibrator. If an audio calibration was done, that's also indicated.

Quote:

If you find reports that I've missed, or if you have had a calibration done yourself, please PM me or post here giving the location of the report. I will try my best to keep this list updated.

Links to reports about direct view and projection (front and rear) displays check this post. For flat panel (Plasma and LCD) reports check Post#2.For information about members who were unhappy with their results check Post#3.

Contact Information:

It's easy to contact anyone who is registered at AVS. If you click on their "User Name" in the upper left hand corner of any message that they post, you can either send a personal message, or if they have listed one, visit their personal web page. Almost all of the professional calibrators who's work is discussed in this list have included their web page URL as part of their AVS profile.

I have no contact information for the calibrators who are not members of AVS. Contacting their customers might be one way to reach them.

A quick way to find a post written by any AVS member is to click on "Search" followed by a click on "Advanced Search". Then fill in the "Search by User" box and click on "Search Now".

A way to find a calibrator in your area is to use these AVS threads.

ISF Calibrators, where are you located? Please post here!

You can use the "Search this Thread" option to narrow the list down to your state. Many of the best calibrators travel extensively so you may be closer to one than you think.

Comments by professional calibrators:
UMR thinks it's possible, expensive, and incomplete.

Eliab,

We are simply amazed with the results of your 2nd calibration for us on our new Sammy LNS3241D LCD TV. The first calibration on our Sammy HLN507W left us in awe. It was a no brainer to have you apply your calibration skills on this set as well.

In both cases, you've enhanced our visual experience by bringing the images on screen to life. You've added a dimension of viewing pleasure to an already amazing product. Your work brings out the true potential of the device. Colors are more vibrant and lifelike, skin tones are detailed and precise, and dark scenes have good depth to retain definition and clarity. This adds to our overall viewing experience by giving a heightened feeling for the environment you are viewing. Whether its a bright sunny day or a cold grey wintery scene, your calibration accentuate the sets true capabilities which intensifies and clarifies the producer's genuine intentions.

Your skills are truly an art form. Along with your consummate professionalism, your services are invaluable to anyone that is seeking to get the best possible picture from their display unit. Your skills in calibration really make a huge difference in maximizing the potential of what the display is capable of producing.

Looking forward to securing your services on my next unit!

Thanks, HT, for requesting my review.

Thanks for PMing me the review.

cmwtek@aol.com

He's located in San Francisco, but used to be in Washington, DC (used to be the head tech for Meyer Emco) and often makes trips back east. He is an independent calibrator, now.

Chuck does a complete calibration, including cleaning. Picture was much improved after the calibration, and on this great RP CRT, the picture is incredibly life-like. I highly recommend him.

I had my Samsung HLM507W calibrated earlier this month by Chuck Williams. He did a great job with my first generation DLP. Black levels are now spot on. Excellent picture quality after the calibration. Great guy and highly recommend him. Contact him through the Lion AV site.

These are 2 very different machines. The first is triple-gun CRT, the second one a bulb driven device.

I only follow a few owner's threads so I depend on others to let me know when a report is posted in threads that I'm not reading.

Chuck Williams added a neutral density filter when he calibrated my set. I thought it looked pretty good before but I must admit quite an improvement, even my wife noticed it. Blacker blacks much truer colors and more 3 D like. Changed the picture setting from natural to briliant with the added filter. Very happy!

I just joined this forum and see that I am not the only one with the shadow problem. I bought my Samsung DLP HL-R5668W in Dec 2005. It worked real great until I came back from a 2 week vacation last week when I noticed a 2 inch (approx.) shadow on the left side of the screen. Unfortunate I am out of warranty. Can anyone tell me what it would cost to get it fixed (Light engine tunnel (integrator) and all? Would appreciate a response.

Somehow you posted in the wrong thread. This is the one you seem to be interested in.

There do not seem to be any calibration reports for Toshiba dlp rptv's, either last year's HM196 or this year's HM197 models.

Any reasons or did I miss it?

Shelly

Yes. There is a reason. I can only read so many threads.

That's why I asked, in the first post, for others to let me know when they found a calibration report that's not in the list.

Reading Samsung, Sony, and some Mitsubishi threads keeps me busy.

Hey, ht. Love your thread!

I am very grateful for your thread, allowing people to look us up and see reports from others on the work we do.

I am occasionally in PA, it's just a coupla miles down from SC and RC, where I go every week for chiropractic and massage therapy. I live in East Bay, in San Lorenzo, just a quick hop across the SM Br and I'm there, not far from you.

Let me know if there's something I can do to give back to you, now that you have given so much to us calibrators so far. How about a complimentary house call and optics cleaning, if you have a CRT set? It's on the house.

Next time I'm gonna be around PA, I would be glad to stop by and check out your sys and see if there's something I can do for you, either for nothing if it's something like optics cleaning, or for greatly reduced rates if it's a calibration. Or a free checkout of your sys. Yesterday I did a checkout on a guy's new 1080p Samsung, and to the amazement of both of us, it needed no calibration! Was not strictly linear in its grayscale tracking, but averaged out, at his chosen light level it needed no calibration work on grayscale!

And with the DVE filters - the best filters out there, that I know of - it didn't have red push either, and was in fact VERY linear in its color decoding. Didn't need any work there either.

Keep up the good work -

That's very generous. I'm covered (720p DLP Samsung HL-P5063 - 2004) at the moment. Thanks for the thought.

That's amazing. Which model was it?

Did you have a chance to see a grid on it? There have been a lot of people complaining about bowing lines -- much more than in the past when Samsung's cases were a bit more rigid.

I don't have the exact model number, but it looked like a 57", and was 1080p, so you know it's the latest and greatest new offering in their lineup. All plasmas before it will have been 720p.

Yes, and there were no problems at all with it. Everything straight and very linear in there. As a fixed pixel plasma, this was not unexpected. I have never seen a plasma with bowed edges, as it's all fixed. I don't believe that can be changed, in a plasma.

I just did a google and found these 1080p Samsung plasma sets currently available.

FP-T6374 63" 1080p

These models seem to be due in September. Maybe you saw a Korean market set.

Sony KDS70XBR2

This will be fairly short for now - I'll probably add more after living with my "new" set longer.

Jeff came to Arizona on Monday on one of his only occasional Southwestern trips and I sprung for the full setup with him.

I'm still checking out the picture and noticing all the improvements, but the sound improvement (especially with the subwoofer integration) is nothing but astounding.

And he is such the ultimate professional. It was such a pleasure being with him for the 5 hours!

Too bad I can't point all this out to my wife - I hid the whole visit from her.
Oh, well, she probably would say that she doesn't notice anything different anyway.
