Same problem here. I am using the HD-A1. Will try in an HD-A2 later.

A few people have reported that boiling thier Good Shepherd & that other troublesome disc has allowed it to work. Some even got away with just hot tap water, & somebody even suggested just cleanng with Armor All.

Hello All,

Please allow me to clear up the confusion here. I work with Joe Kane on distribution of this title, and have been present through all of the delays leading to this release.

As many of you have seen, DVE HD DVD experiences severe playback issues on XBOX 360 HD DVD add on players. ALL OTHER PLAYERS HAVE BEEN TESTED EXTENSIVELY IN THEIR CURRENT FIRMWARE BUILD. All Toshiba players play this disc.

As has been suggested in this thread and others concerning DVE playback, you are correct - past delays were due to slight changes in each new firmware build - and the program had to go through the same rigorous testing and revisions each time. Finally, a disc was produced that adhered to the spec set forth by the DVD forum, which has been confirmed by its working status in all current firmware builds of Toshiba players.

The XBOX 360 dashbord update to be released on May 7th will fix these problems. All HD DVD players must have Internet upgrade capabilities, and we are all learning first hand why this was built into the spec.

Thank you for your patience!

Thanks for the info, Jeffrey.

My copy will arrive on Monday, but I'll have to wait for the 360 update to really make use of the disc.

Unhappy

I, too, am having issues with DVE with my XBox 360 AND my Toshiba Qosmio Q35 laptop. The menu just freezes when it gets to the Video Calibration selection.

I know that there is an update due on May 7th for the XBox 360 firmware but I am just hoping that I don't have a defective disc!

Specifically, what version(s) of firmware was DVE tested to? For the X/A1's was it 2.0 or 2.1?

Thank you.

Make sure you file a complaint with M$ directly on the issue. The more people that file and complain means the better the chance M$ listens and puts a priority on it. Here is the link: http://support.xbox.com/eform.aspx?p...s&locale=en-us

If this is supposed to work correctly on the HD-D1, then how do I title search? I pressed the title search button and nothing happens and I can't seem to go directly to a title/chapter?

I am having the same problem on my Toshiba A1 player. I can access the various video/audio tests on the screen but I can not access any titles directly nor is there a "program information" button that appears on the screen to access the titles directly.

Any ideas on how to get to the rest of the video tests on a HD-A1 player?????

Are you watching the DVD side or the HD DVD side? There are no "titles" on the HD DVD side. The menus there are pretty straightforward.

The DVD edition of Digital Video Essentials is notorious for its awkward menu structure, however.

I'm using the hd side. On my old copy of DVE, I could choose 5.1 or 6.1 to calibrate the speaker channels. Now when I go to multichannel audio tests on the disc I the 6.1 speaker lights up on the screen but I get no sound. I have a 7.1 surround system and the 2 surround back speakers don't even light up, just the 6.1 channel and then no sound through the speakers. I must be missing something?

http://www.1080x1920.net/ just updated their website with 2.1! Go download and burn. I'm doing mine in about an hour.

EDIT: It appears that they don't have the actual file to download -- sorry. They should be the best place to find it until Toshiba gets off their collective behinds and mails out some relief. I'm wary of download the update as the disc update has a much lower failure rate (read: no brick wanted).

Ran through all tests and the entire disc on both sides with the HD XA2 with 1.5 firmware.

No issues.

BTW, the standard DVD side has the tutorial and all the data with upgraded graphics on how to setup your system.

The title menu system is still easiest way to get to the stuff, but the insert explains it better.

The HD DVD side is all iHD menus. Works great.

SharkShark, I am in the same boat as you with Amazon sending me a email yesterday telling me my DVE disc was delayed for shipping to June 20th. I cancelled Amazon and ordered another copy through *********************. I did call them first and they said there were copies in stock.

bases1616,

Got the same email from Amazon.

Had to approve the additional delay before it would let me cancel the order.

Strange that we've heard that some people got their order from Amazon while others like us got delayed. They must have sold all that came in on their first order.

The "Levels and Balance" test on the HD side is indeed confusing. It cycles not just through the 5.1/7.1 speakers, but includes phantom channels in between speakers, and the graphic is a little unclear about which are your surround speakers, which are your back surround speakers, and which are phantom.

For what it's worth, the speakers that appear to be directly to the left and right of the couch at the top 1/3 of the frame are meant to be the surrounds. The empty spaces that light up above the door and curtained window are phantom channels, and the light that appears at the very bottom of the screen below the lowest chair is a back surround (just one). I don't see a speaker pictured there, so it might be that these are strictly 5.1 tones and that is a phantom. On the other hand, there appear to be 2 square boxes to the left and right of this that I would assume are back surround speakers but never light up.

Yeah, it's not a well designed test.

You wouldn't be running 6 channel analog which would not include the back channels? Come to think about it, unless you have a preamp/receiver that processes the high rez audio, you're not going to get a rear surround output. None of the HD-DVD players have a rear analog output.

There is no need for that. We have known and fixed the problems here. It is just that the disc came out before our udpate for the 360.

Not working with PowerDVD 7.3n

I cannot select Play All in any menu. Nothing happens. I can then go back one menu level and then it is frozen.
