Kenwood DNX7100 Background Resolution

I have been trying for the past three hours to figure out what resolution background images need to be to take up the entire screen on the Kenwood DNX7100. I have had no luck and am looking for some advice from the knowledgeable folks here.

The manual is worthless and Google results leave me with no real answers.

I'd greatly appreciate any help that can be provided.

I'd like to know too. I've been too preoccupied with other things to experiment with them enough, but the ones I did try loading didn't fill the screen so I just stuck with the default for now. Anyone else?

After getting a non-answer from Kenwood via their tech support line I decided to tinker some more with it.

It appears that a 480 x 270 pixel image works quite well as a background in the DNX7100. 480 pixels is definitely the width I could be off a pixel or two on the height but it looks very, very good.

No problem. I knew when Kenwood couldn't help me I was doomed. I'm just glad there is an answer to this question finally.

Did you end up going with an actual picture or an abstract color pattern? It looks to me like a picture wouldn't be very attracvtive as the menus would cover it most of the time.

I went with a graphic. If you trim off some of the vertical aspects of a picture it doesn't look too bad though. I had a great picture of an alligator eye that looked awesome but was afraid it might creep out my daughter.

I've got a question, regarding wallpapers. Is there a specific folder structure that needs to be created for getting them installed? I've tried a CD-R, putting the photo on my iPod, and putting them on an SD card (technically a Micro SD card with an adapter), and the unit doesn't seem to recognize them. I hope to god I don't have to tear the dash apart to use the USB dongle with a flash drive.

The one I've created is a 480x270 jpeg image per your recommendation, so from what I've read, that should work just fine. Any thoughts?

It appears that you have to use the USB drive to upload wallpapers.

I would think and hope that Kenwood releases some software updates that allow users to input information into the DNX7100 through any of the means mentioned but for now that is not the case.

Yeah, I finally got it all figured out. Problem is, I didn't listen to the advice here and went with a pic, hoping that there would be a way to remove some of the clutter and show the pic better, but no dice. All of this I found out after dismantling my dash to disconnect my iPod/USB cable.

As far as firmware updates, if they would give a way to reduce some of the items that appear on screen, and/or maybe adding a setting that lets you increase the size of album art on screen from the iPod.

But, I am very satisfied with the deck, especially the navigation. I didn't even have to mount the antenna externally, it's just zip tied to a bracket inside the dash.

Jmubudman, The info button will give you more album info and if you page down a larger album art picture. All updates on the 7100 (including software upgrades) must be done through the USB port so when installing the unit it is best to make this port accessable.

Yeah, I have to tear apart my console stack and move the USB cable to the center console, but thank God I have enough slack for it.

Crutchfield hands on says the screen has a resolution of 480 x 234. big difference of what you found to work.

the specs in the manual say the same thing.

What is the actual way to get the pic on the screen? I hook up my portable drive and I get to the background settings but the "change" option is grayed out. The manual didn't offer any more info than that. Any suggestions? Thanks

Nevermind. Read the fine print.
