Leno on Blu-ray "It's above HD"

Lol,

Leno had Sandra Bullock on for Premonition, he pulls out the DVD and Blu-ray and Sandra asks him what's Blu-ray
Leno: "and the Blu-ray is really cool..."

Bullock: "What is that?"

Leno: "You haven't seen the movie in Blu-ray? I mean like everything is like, like

Bullock: "Blue?"

(laughs)

Leno: well it's, it's more ray... but no, it's ahh enhanced, it's like above HD"

Bullock: "Is it? But HD for woman is not necessarily a good thing"

Leno: "Why is that?"

Bullock: "Have you seen HD, all of a sudden you see everything...we don't want to see that, you want it several generations away from this (motions hand over face)....kinda like what everyone is seeing at home right now they go "oh she doesn't look bad," that's because they don't see it in HD"

Leno: Blah, blah, blah...<mumbling some crap that is not funny>

Leno doesn't mention that she is in HD! Did he forget or was he being nice?

LOL they should hire Leno as a spokesperson, it's above HD....

I've heard Leno mention Blu-ray before, casually in a positive light during the monologue. I forget the context, but it was a situation where either Blu-ray or HD-DVD would've fit and he chose to say Blu-ray.

I'm surprised Universal doesn't censor Leno. If I was Universal, I wouldn't let Leno mention Blu-ray at all. However, I'm glad he's doing it. I imagine alot of Joe-six-packs watch Leno.

LOL, Leno has Blu-Ray in his home and it sounds cool. HD-DVD would confuse the jokes since people would thing you are talking about DVD's.. It is easier to say Blu-Ray and go it is beyond, above, or better than HD since that is what the marketing team has created as their slogan... Good for Blu-Ray, the more it is mentioned by Leno, the more the name is engraved into peoples heads...

Yeah GE owns Universal, they are getting some pressure from above according to some folks who attended the panel at EMA with Universal's Ken Graffeo...

Makes sense, if Universal goes neutral that would pretty much convince most retailers to relegate HD DVD to online sales only, speed up market growth and profits for Universal!

So Blu-ray enters the late night talk show vernacular. Has HD-DVD ever been mentioned on Letterman, Conan, etc?

HD-DVD has never been mentioned on daytime or night-time TV until the day Blockbuster went Blu.. Then it was mentioned many many times, but in a negative way...

Sandra doesn't know what Blu-ray is? Pathetic.

I wonder how much he is getting payed to plug Blu-ray. Personally I think Leno is a tool, so it wouldn't surprise me if he is getting some crazy amount. But it is cool that he is mentioning it.

Why does everyone always think someone in the media must be paid to plug a product. Maybe he made the decision to go Blu and that is why he mentioned it. After all, money is no object to him, so I doubt he would be tempted by Toshiba's promotions.

Hate to bust your bubble but around Christmas of last year The Today Show did a whole segment on HD DVD and how it is THE next gen format (this is to be expected coming from NBC/Uni).
Since the Today show averages 5.85 mil viewers and Tonight show averages 5.7 mil viewers. numerically I would call that a draw. But then again we are talking different demographics as well. Should Universal try to play that card again this time with a cheaper product on the market I can see it having more of an impact then Leno commenting on BD in passing.
Fox needs to counter by having its news channel's morning show do a segment on BD. Granted the numbers aren't the same as the today show, but you have to admit as rabid as the haters of Fox news are their fans are just as rabid......anyways starting to ramble....... must take adderall........

From the context I'd say he was saying it's above HDTV, which is how I describe Blu Ray/HD-DVD to people.

Exactly, or maybe he is simply promoting the premonition on dvd and bluray.
I am not surprised that he doesn't know exactly what blu-ray is anyhow. He is an entertainer first and foremost, outside of that, he is a car guy. He doesn't seem to be that much of an AV enthusiast.

Leno does what he wants essentially. He rips on NBC for having bad network TV ratings etc. Promoting the NBC/Universal's competitors product is is an afterthought.

I think Leno said "above HD" because he's associating with the Sony pre-view plug-tag line "Beyond HD".

He probably meant to say Beyond HD...

I know what Sandra's talking about. Watched Premonition last night (unfortunately), and though she looked quite good at times (in the beginning I swore she never ages), in scenes where she wasn't supposed to look so stunning HD sure does reveal every red, bumpy detail.

To counter this, though, I think I got more cheap thrills from her bod in this than any other film of hers.

To me Leno looked a little uncomfortable pushing Blu ray beause he probably has a few HD DVD players in his house. Sandra on the other had is a very cool chick.

leno isn't pushing it. he does what he wants. he rips nbc all the time. he mentions blu-ray because he probably has it. he knows the future of high def. hd-dvd boys just can't stomach that. they always thinks someone is pushing it because they have no choice.

Man, talk about much ado about nothing...

Jay Leno is probably the one show that is not beholden to all the suits and bureaucracy of NBC-Universal. Take a look at their guests: American Idol (Fox), Desperate Housewives (ABC), etc. Leno himself cracks at NBC's ratings half the times anyways, if anything Leno has the free reign to be as NEUTRAL as he wants to be. Whether it be promoting stars on other networks or any HD formats.

Now of course if I was to be defensive about this, you could say that Leno was saying that it was "above Broadcast HD" which comes in 1080i, but that's splitting hairs.

Honestly I'm not sure why everyone's so crazy about ending this war this year, the fact that there is a format war is forcing both sides to get their specs up to par and actually deliver us all the goodies they promised instead of listening to a bunch of marketing presentations is not a bad thing!

My friend worked on Demolition Man and said that Sandra Bullock was indeed very cool and a total sweetheart. My cousin used to batend in LA and said the same thing.

John, the hidden irony of all this is that alot of the in-the-know make-up people in the TV side of the biz have been asking for pay raises.

And Sandra is incorrect, many males are just as concerned.
Unfortunately, the TV talent from broadcasts like this don't get the fancy post house tricks that the movie talent does.

Score another for Blu-ray on Leno in the war of a thousand cuts.

There's a few I've noticed.... One being Dustin Hoffman has never looked worse than he did in Stranger than Fiction....

And I'm sure Morgan Freeman's face will look like a bit from a moon landing special on the history channel.

HD does NOT do justice to actors/actresses alike, but the one thing it does do is show these people are NOT perfect. That alone is a cause worth supporting when taking into account how damn superficial this country is becoming, mostly at fault to the glamor of Hollywood.

So let me guess. Just like with Bill Hunt and DVDFile, now there are going to be numerous "Leno is an idiot!" and boycott Leno threads...?

Hey Dave, I'm not disputing that in any way, but Demolition Man came while before she became a star.

I'm sure she would have changed, at least a bit. I believe no ego comes out intact after the worldwide success and the boost in 'celebirty status' after being a Hollywood sweetheart.
