Bickering posts removed. Rule of thumb: If you talk to or about another AVS member.. and it's anything other than a compliment, you're most likely on thin ice. Read the rules about member bashing. And remember: Attack the post if you must, but DON'T ATTACK THE POSTER.

Well, the September numbers came out 90 minutes ago. Drum roll please...

119,400 for the month. My predicition was off by 600 units. Oh, and it was a 5-week month. So that's ALMOST 24k (23,880, to be exact) per week. Looks like the real numbers WERE half of Vgchartz, just as I was saying.

This is one case where I don't hate to say "I told you so"
It bears repeating (since my first post was deleted...and no one was attacked, it was more of a call about putting too much weight in a certain site's numbers), vgchartz should not be called upon for definitive sales data. A good read: http://arstechnica.com/journals/thum...gchartz-speaks

The estimations he makes have been outside of the true NPD figures repeatedly. NPD only delivers it's findings once a month but this is expensive information that industry people purchase before it reaches the public.

MarekM,

Re-read your post above mine. That is the type of thing you would send someone as a private message. You are directly challanging someone. I didn't read what was deleted but your post above #4055 is not appropriate.

Try to understand the viewpoint of the mods so that you can keep contributing here. I must be on thin ice myself more then I want to be but all members here have to try to respect the rules.

I know it's not right place to write about it, but PM will not solve this.......

Marek,

Like I said,.. I didn't see what got deleted, sorry about that. I came back actually to remove my post then I saw you quoted it. I have no idea where Slovokia is but it sounds far from the US (my goegraphy is sad.) Point being,.. I bet you add a lot to the forum with viewpoints that aren't the norm here. I was hoping I could encourage you to try to get through the problems and stick around.

Again,... didn't see the stuff that got taken out so I don't have all the info.

I guess what porsche1207 meant was if there's been any press release or boasting from Paramount/HD-DVD about "Transformers" HDM sales. You know, the same way Warner boasted about HDM sales of "300" long before the Nielsen/Videoscan numbers came out the following week.

Just a thought on Spider-Man 3.

It'll be available on its own.

It'll be available in the boxed-set.

It'll be available free with the cheap PS3.

Might this not split the 'sales' somewhat?

Yes, Spiderman 3 sales will be split but it seems quite easy to work out what's going on.

Simply take the number of single title sales and add it to the number of box sets sold.

And hey presto, you've suddenly the total number of Spiderman 3 Blu-rays sold at retail.

Give-away copies with the 40GB PS3 shouldn't affect the numbers as a pack-in disc won't register as a sale. And initial sales are going to be to existing PS3 and stand-alone owners. Besides, by the time the new PS3 shows up in the shops won't SP3 already have been on sale a couple of weeks?

Sales may well be reduced over the longer run but obviously Sony will be expecting the other big hitter Q4 titles to take up the slack.

Good numbers, but for that to work the other side should keep the sales, so that's the idea, create the user base to keep the weekly sales so is harder to move those ratios in a normal week (not counting blockbuster release dates or BOGO sales).

Take your 98:2 at 100, if the sales keep at 2 units then in fact the 98 need to grow to 198, getting to 99:1, if the other side only sell 1 unit and you sell 1 unit more you get to 99:1, so is important for the side selling less don't go down more, that kill the ratio fast.

The only way to keep the ratio on a strong selling week for the other side, is to get a strong selling week yourself, that's why people think the bigger BOGO for BR titles was to promote big sales and try to keep the ratio as much as possible.

Well I was wrong about a pendulum swing back this week.

Any other clues about the volumes involved?

Based on the ratios it looks like the FFSS Blu-ray release dominated things.

71:29??!!!

That shocks me quite a bit. I expected Evan Almighty to sell better, since it is a day and date, eventhough supposedly the movie was god awful.

Good week for blu. Next week, will we meet our match???? hehe

btw, girls dig Transformers. I had two wanting to watch it with me and my roomates on my 50" plasma.

For those of you looking for a reason to step away from the forum

Ouch. I completely discounted 28 Weeks later. It outsold EA by 40%.

FFRoSS did phenemenal for its second week too.

Now THIS week will be FUN!! I hope we can find some sales numbers to go with the percentages for next week. I would be SHOCKED if it wasn't BY FAR the best week HDM has ever had.

It looked like Even Almighty underperformed for HD DVD.

Looks like FFSS kicked butt. 28 Weeks did good as action too.

Release driven week with FFSS and 28 as action movies beating the comedies.

No hint of the installed base or hardware sales affecting the sales numbers or any impact of previously released titles starting to add up. Bah.

It looks all to boil down to the titles that were released dominating.

The volume can't be that large or YTD would have ticked towards BD. It's probably the same low volume overall that has been the rule. 71:29 is great for the BD side, but until I see the YTD move (again) I don't think it indicates much about HDM adoption.

I've been surprised before by bad movies, but I would have been shocked if EA had beaten a catalog release of Hello Kitty Island Adventures. It certainly did better than I expected.

YTD may change next week as I think it will be one of the biggest total volume weeks of the year so far. It all depends how much the numbers for next week differ from 66:34.

If it ends up being 60:40 Blu-ray then I don't expect YTD to change much since they would be so close. If it turns out 50:50 then I could see it changing down as much as 63:37.

It will be one hell of an interesting read when next week's numbers are posted.

Im very surprised at the holdover for FFSS. I still dont think theres a chance in hell theres enough holdover for all of these titles to combat Transformers even with the BOGO but instead of 60:40 HD DVD ill change to 55:45 based on the flop of Evan giving HD DVD nothing next week more likely.

Should be fun next week

Evan Almighty outsold 28 Weeks Later 2-1 on SD and was outsold 7-5 on HD? Thats a HUGE turnaround. 280% difference SD to HD in relation to one another. Very peculiar.

Evan was always assumed to be a bomb. I know I never even considered picking it up.
