I have a 40-incher due Friday from the BigR Ranch. My typical view is a bit off angle (say, 25 degrees or so) due to the nature of the room; I am a bit concerned. I am not really hearing any majority of our users complaining about the off-axis purple, but I don't know if that is because backlights are being set to more normal settings, users not typically viewing off-angle, OR simple inconsistency of manufacture. ![]() Further observations? Yeah I notice it on fade-to-blacks and in black bars at night on my 40", especially at 20-30 degrees off-angle or more. A bummer, but not a killer for me. LCDs just aren't great off-axis. Can't compare, because my old TV was much worse in every way, and never had a xx61 or xx71 in my room.

A/V timing issues
So my latest issue is audio/video timing problems.
With my last LCD I never had an issue with this: I send audio out of my DVD player as digital, run it through an outboard DAC, and then send the analog audio to my preamp. This gives me the best quality audio with my components, and it sounds great. One problem--the video goes out over component to the TV, and it seems that with this setup, the audio is slightly AHEAD of the TV video which makes it look like every movie is a poor lip-synch job. Anyone have a suggestion how to delay the audio in synch with the video, or speed up the video? Could this have anything to do with video LAG noticed by the gamers out there? For movies I have AMP off (though for some reason it won't let me turn film mode on; I wonder if this has to do with component cable source). This TV sure likes greying out a lot of options. ![]()

I just want to chime in as well that if you buy from Big River and you call CEVA when it's in the warehouse, you can get it MUCH quicker. I called yesterday and mine was supposed to be delivered on the 9th, but instead, they are going to do it today.
Can't beat that.

This set does such a great job with PQ...even on SD channels/feeds. My question is, if I am using a STB that can output in all formats (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i), what is the best choice for overall highest quality PQ? Is it to pass the signal to the tv as it comes from the STB (passthrough) or would it be to upconvert all signals, even SD channels, to 1080i? Would that sharpen the lower quality 480i signal or make it looks so stretched or unnatural that it would not be worth it?
Sorry...I haven't played much with these different formats. My wife prefers to watch some shows on SD channels in my area, and they are coming through at 480i and it just doesn't look "right". Thanks for any help... C Last edited by capa2000; 04-29-08 at 09:41 AM.. |

I just want to say that I had a 650 and returned it for a 750, the 650 had no purple tint during the two weeks I had it. The 750 however, has purple tint. I've had the 750 for less than a week. I looked for purple on the 650 and could not see it. The purple is easily seen on the 750 that I have.

where do you guys see the purple? i need to know what to look for when they send me a replacement set for my defective 46a650. Also, what other defects/issues should i look for and how should i test for them? I will keep sending tvs back until samsung gets it right. Eventually they will lose so much money getting back second-hand tvs that they will be forced to give me a working tv.

http://www.sanus.com/us/en/products/...layout/layout/ It was only $50 at Costco and it worked great. It came will all hardware necessary to mount my 52. I did use the spacers included because I didn't want the mount to scratch up the back panel. |

My 52A650 got delivered yesterday..Beautiful..
I have to say, I'm will be going to the movies a lot, lot, less because to this tv..
But. I seems to have signal issues with the xbox 360 using component set to display at 1080p.. I was playing devil may cry demo and the signal will go in and out.. Strange so far this is the only game that I'm having issues with.. Will have to play with the tv more.. |

a similar one at monoprice costs much less. it seems there are more poeple buying silver one than black one. why is that? I thought black wall mount is better since it matches with TV color? |

setting the 360 to output at 1080i fixed the issues.. Can't tell the difference between 1080p vs 1080i..
Another thing with this tv (52 inc), due to its size, you see how horrible directv image quality really is. Bluray is beautiful as is upscaled dvd's (HTPC using ffdshow). |

which one is a better wall mount for 52a650:
This low profile one: has 1.25" gap between wall and TV. this makes it look nice but tight wall wiring. or This Adjustable Tilting Wall Mount Bracket : has 4" gap between wall and TV. big gap does not look nice but good for wiring. Also Silver vs Black? which one matches better with 650? |

Samsung versus Sony in 52 inch screens
I am new here to the forum and am in the market for a 52 inch screen. What is the opinion of the Sony XBR Bravia screens versus the Samsung LNxxx550 650, or 750 screens. I know Samsung is much less expensive.
Also I understand that new models seem to hit the market around July. Are there any new models worth waiting for? Thanks for any information. |

Advice Needed:
I'm a LN52A650 Owner and want to hook it up to my Media PC to watch 720/1080p files off my hard drive. It's a powerfull PC (4GB, quad-core, etc..) however I need to purchase a new video card. The PC also has a blu-ray drive, so I would use it as my blu-ray player also. Ideally, i wouldn't be PC gaming on it as I already own a XBOX360 - but having the option is nice. I'm trying to figure out the best video card option for me. I would really like to use a high end card with HDMI out - so are there any recommendations? I've been looking at the following cards: SAPPHIRE 100221SR Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB (512MB x 2) GECUBE HD3870X2-F3 Radeon HD 3870 X2 1GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) BFG Tech BFGE98512GTXOCXE GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB 256-bit One spec i'm not sure on as far as the benefits of HDMI output is the Stream Processors. It appears the ATI cards have the NVidia cards quite beat in this area but i'm wondering if it matters for my purposes. I'm traditionally an nVidia fan but am open to whichever choice is best for this application. |

I have noticed that during basketball games I see light shade of either yellow or purple on the basketball court? This is not a permanent flash of light because when I switch to other programs the picture is flawless.....
Does anybody know why this happens. I am think it is a reflection of lights of the arean the games are played at. Also....what is the difference between 1003.g and 1003.m? Which one is better? Last but not least.......once in a while during a TNT Sport broadcast......their is a big green block the covers half the screen for a second. Is this TNT's fault or is this a defect from TV. During other programs.in certain scenes their is very small purple coloring that appears on clothing......but it is nothing permanent........it just appears every once in a while. I don't mean to be negative........this TV is awesome...........I watched INTO the blue last night on TNT and it was awesome. P.S. The purple I am referring to is small flash......nothing near the picture that Sega Team posted. |

Thanks for reminding me SEGA. No, my 40" is not nearly that bad, and somewhat more of a bluish tint than your post. I suppose it's not worth considering an exchange. I'm looking to move to HDMI for movies, and then be able to use HDMI black level control to further reduce this appearance. I'll post pics later. Do you have a good idea for a blank screen, or do you think credits are best because they show roughly that you are using reasonable settings?
BTW, I won't bother with anything more off-angle than 135º since that's in my mind an unreasonable demand of an LCD.

If you want to test your settings for black crush fire up The Orphanage Blu-ray. Great detail in the shadows, they scale pretty well before going black if at all. It's a good black level calibration reference disc. I have HDMI Black Level on Normal, Energy Saving on Low, tweaked Standard Mode, Back Light on 7, and Black Level Adjust / Dynamic Contrast on Medium and The Orphange looked fantastic.
