That's exactly it.

The way I look at it:

Did I need to have something that's worth $250 now (and will be worth considerably less in a year or two) or should I sell it now (while it's still worth more than $25) and use that money to buy other discs?

Clearly I chose the latter.

Plus, I've had it for months and never once opened it. There was bound to be someone out there who would appreciate it more than I do.

And since we're bragging, I found it by doing a little leg work on Ebay. Just started emailing people from around the country selling copies. Got it for $20.

They must of updated the Australian pressing of Superman Returns as it now includes a PCM/True-HD track even though it is not mentioned on the cover. The barcode is the same as the older version so it is pot luck if you get one (as you won't know until you open and play it) that has the lossless tracks on it-

The PCM track is awesome on it and IMO it sounds better than the True-HD track (which is strange as the are both lossless tracks and should be identical). Good news that is also Region free (tested with my Panasonic BD-30 Region A player).

As I said it is pot luck. I wouldn't know if they have old stock or new stock. Ezydvd being a larger chain I would imagine have the new version but I wasn't willing to get stuck with the plain jane version.

If you wish I can try and get another copy from the store I purchase mine from and forward to you at whatever it costs with postage etc. Let me know.

Lucky enough to be in Australia for once!

Got my copy today, and as luck would have it, is the reissued version with PCM and Dolby TrueHD. Like the picture you see, the cover makes no mention of the extra audio tracks.

I checked the video bitrate on both versions, (I also have the original U.S. pressing), and it's identical. This is the exact same video encode, no questions.

The extra tracks are both 16 bit.

I checked the file structure of both discs. The original pressing was created on October 18th, 2006 and is 26.9 GB in size.

The new pressing was created on May 17th 2007, and is 44.1 GB in size.

Hi,

I am from Germany.

I am afraid that I might get the old pressing if I order this online.

Is there any chance some1 from Oz can get me the the "Superman Returns BD" with the lossless audio and send it to me?

I'd cover all costs, shipping etc. by PayPal or however.
If you need any release from Germany in return I'd be happy to help.

Many thanks.

Warner has re-issued Superman Returns in Japan. Let me check in the stores during lunch break and revert back.

Reply from amazon.co.jp confirming there was a re-issue

************************************************************ **

Thanks for writing to Amazon.co.jp.

I browsed our website for you and found this item that most closely matches what you were searching for:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B001AHAGTW

This item is re-issue version which released on June 2008.

I hope this is what you hoped to find. I've also included some information below about finding products on Amazon.co.jp that you may find helpful in the future.

************************************************************ **

Reply from dvdcrave.com.au confirming presence of both PCM and Dolby True HD

I just played a Blu Ray Superman Returns and yes, it does have the PCM and Dolby True HD.

If you do choose to order this item, please put a note on your order to check for the PCM & Dolby True HD Audio Track so that if I am not here tomorrow that Vanessa can check it for you.

Thanks spizz and BenjaminG for promptly notifying about the re-issue. I pity those people who spent $80+ to get this one on eBay and a shame on Warner for deliberately excluding these tracks in their original release.

If warner rereleased this, along with Phantom of the Opera, Happy Feet, and Lady in the Water- I could smash my A30 with my lucky steak mallet.

I think there may be a good chance they will do it quietly in the US. If I remember right, they did a similar thing with a couple of their DVD's, adding a DTS track after the fact. I remember re-buying Twister and Interview because of this.

Those both had major re-issues with DTS tracks. Nothing quiet about them.

So I can order it from dvdcrave and it should have the PCM track.
Will all the extras play in a US PS3?

Outside of a couple of unannounced Uni titles this is the last HD-DVD I've been hanging on to.

What are the chances that Warner turned on the region locking when they re-issued this one?

Arrow

Yes you can but you have to email them to ship the re-issue which means they may unwrap your copy and check for presence of the ULTRA MODERN HD audio tracks.

Total: AUD $27.44 incl shipping (around US $25 - acceptable when the eBay bulls are charging $80+)

I placed the order today and received the below emails.

***************************************************
Hi,

I have checked your copy of Blu Ray Superman Returns Special Edition and it does feature the PCM & Dolby True HD Audio Track.

***************************************************

The following item(s) from your order were shipped today:
Blu-ray Disc - Superman Returns Special Edition

WB have re-issued Training Day in Japan. Would be great if they had featured Dolby True HD track which was present on the HD DVD. Btw all versions of Training Day on Blu-ray is VC-1 encoded except the U.S version which is encoded using low bit rate MPEG-2.

Warner never encodes extras at PAL resolutions for Hollywood movies on Blu-ray.

Yes it will play unless stated it's presented in 576i/p.

Member BenjaminG reported that the re-issue disc size is 44.1 GB in comparison to the old one which is 26.9 GB.

I ordered from dvdcrave last night also and asked them to check for the PCM and TrueHD tracks. They sent me the exact same reply as lgans316. I'll report back when I receive my order, supposedly in 5-10 days.

Yeah,

but I don't wanna wait.
No stock at DVDCrave. No idea whether Ezy has the reamsetred version.

Smart move from Warners not to adjust the packaging...

The packaging will probably change in time also. It is possible they have run out of old discs but still have old packaging covers to go through.
