Paramount Offers $10 Rebate for DVD Owners

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1658

If they offer a $10 rebate on the Transformers DVD but not the HD-DVD I'm going to feel cheated.

I've been checking this thread religiously, and no good sales to speak of recently. And lo and behold, deepdiscount throws a massive HD-DVD sale today, and I go right back to buying HD-DVDs again, which I had stopped when I went purple with the PS3. This stuff just is not helping the BD cause.

Same here. I'll have more HD DVDs soon just because of cheap prices.

There was actually a column Best Buy ran back when that they would be offering lower prices since HD DVD was dead. Yeah, right! Not seeing that happening.

If you do get the blu version, you might as well TRY and get a rebate. Paramount may go ahead and give the rebate.

thanks for mentioning the HD-DVD sale. You just cost me another $80.

I do hope that we see more Blu-ray sales soon, but I did pick up some titles for cheap at Family Video a couple of days ago. Some of them weren't top tier titles but they did interest me:

(1) Vengeance Blu-ray Disc (787364819997) = $11.84
(1) House of Fury Blu-ray Disc (117119644046) = $14.33
(1) Exorcism of Emily Rose Unrated Blu-ray Disc (043396215214) = $17.30
(1) Tiger Blade Blu-ray Disc (787364819898) = $11.84
(1) Proposition Blu-ray Disc (687797112163) = $10.34
(1) Pale Rider Blu-ray Disc (883929020843) = $16.85

With the wave of titles coming in October/November, do you guys think we'll see some aggressive discounting from online retailers?

There are so many movies coming out that I want to buy, but not for $20+............

Almost as great as their 3for2 BR sale.....the only thing that would make that sale any worse is if they only had 2 BRs in it.

I've noticed the Ice Age Bluray Disc is always at a solid $27.95. What's the deal with that? Why is that at a crazy premium? I'll keep waiting for that one to drop.

The biggest problem with these discs is the MSRP. $40?!?!? So when a retailer has a HUGE sale for BDs at 50% off, the're still $20

why do you think bluray hasn't taken off?

$15 is my max for new titles, and $10 is my max for catalog. Once these studios realize that pricing is the reason the format isn't taking off and drop prices, I'll buy more movies.

Right now I own two movies - Corpse Bride (free with 5 disc mail in offer) and The Prestige ($12 from Fry's BOGO like a year ago). I'm happy to keep renting in the mean time.

Ditto.

My price point is exactly the same and I also own 2 movies.

I personally just buy new off Ebay, Amazon Marketplace, and also new and used at our MovieStop (Gamestop company that sells used movies instead of games). Blurays have a nice protective coating, so buying used isn't too much of a risk. That way I never pay more than $13 each for a bluray.

You have very unrealistic expectations for a new format, for the most part those are DVD prices.
I will agree the prices are too high I would be happy if they'd drop to where DVD's were a few years back, $20 for a new release & $15 for catalogue titles.

I have around 130 Blu-Rays, many of them bought during the BOGO sales last holiday season.
If it wasn't for Amazon I'd have a lot less than that but their prices are much lower than the B&M.
Between the online sellers price & sales I've averaged less the $20 each for my Blu-Ray movies, I can live with that.
I'll pay a premium for the improved audio & video quality but not a huge premium.

A simple search on this thread for familyvideo.com has 15 hits. Why do you think there is no talk on here about them?

Exactly.

Hell, new releases on regular DVD are often $14.99-$19.99 even now.
