Integra launches DBS6.9 blu ray player

Integra shows off a new DBS 6.9 blu ray player at Cedia. MSRP $599 and its profile 1.1 Here are a couple of pics for thosethat are interested. It does not have RS232 or a rear IR jack. The integra rep says an Ir emitter placed under the right front will control it just fine without sticking an emitter on the front (when asked about the lack of Rear IR or RS232.)

This will be a serious miss for Onkyo/Integra. No RS232? No rear IR port? For Integra, who prides itself as custom installer/integration type product?

To make matters worse, it appears to have a similar button layout to the Funai. That would be SERIOUS mistake on their part.

Thought an Integra BD player would make a nice companion to my Integra DHC-8.8 HDDVD player, but probably not now.

When I was in their booth at CEDIA, a rep told me even though it does not have an IR port, if you place an EYE on the front bottom (behind the door where it is hidden) and point it up the player will operate fine.

I have to admit even I am not planning to try these new Blu-ray players. Next on my short list are the Sony BDP5000ES and of course the Pioneer 09FD...

At least the HD-DVD rebrand was of the best one out there...

I have heard their second gen player will be a proprietary unit.

It would be their first DVDp of any kind to be proprietary. I really like some of their stuff, but have never had any interest in any player of their's.

I'm a proud owner of an Integra 9.8 pre/pro... and this product just doesn't jive with the companies mission.

They should be embarrassed. Everyone is saying it's a rebadged Funai for 600 bucks.. good grief. do the link

Some of their designs were very much their own. The DV-SP1000/DPS-10.5 was very unique, very full feature set at the time, video processing input and it even overlayed the OSD from Onkyo Amps (Sent via ILink, I think it is the only product to ever do this).

Just had a look through the manual.

Good news:
Correct handling of 4:3 material (Has 16:9 wide and 16:9 squeeze settings)
Bitrate counter
Supports BD-R & BD-RE V3
Supports MP3 on Memory Stick

Bad news:
No decoding of any advanced audio codecs, does not even support DD Plus or TrueHD decoding
No simultaneous output of audio from HDMI and Optical
Downsamples all protected audio to 48Khz on optical
Just as ugly in the manual

I have to admit the DBS-6.9 looks LAME. The Yamaha player with its RS232 port seems a comparative bargain.

I have this player. It does support DD Plus and TrueHD decoding. I don't know where you got your info. So far I am very satisfied with this player.

According to Integra website the player doesn't decode TrueHD, bitstream support only. Same for DTS-MA. So where did you got your info?

What is the point of someone releasing a $600 profile 1.1 player like this when I can spend half that and get a full 2.0 Panny BD55 or Sony S550?

The very fact that it does not have profile 2.0 functionality appeals to many...

You are correct. I looked over things too quickly.
