Just like Austin Powers, we've lost our MOJO (HD).
Interesting rumor running around the internet that Mojo HD is getting ready to shut down. It has been deleted from a few cable systems.

This was discussed here in the various provider topics, as MOJO was dropped, but it seems to be only on random systems, not across the board on any one provider. Let me see what I can fine out.

As long as we get NBA TV HD on Comcast like Chicago has I'm fine with it. Plus MASN HD is going full-time next season so no more games on Mojo.
The HDNet deal might be unrelated since there are two HDNet channels. Plus TWC and a few Comcast systems have both Mojo and HDNet.

It's a pity. As much as my viewing of that channel declined, I still catch shows like London Live and some movies on that channel. They should have stuck with the INHD format. Even with all the discoveries and Palladia, that INHD incarnation had some first rate HD programming in music and travel related.

Well, if you really want to get out there, one could speculate here's the deal:
The whole Comcast / HDNet agreement is based on HDNet absorbing MOJO, pick up the cream of its programming crop. That would make room for it on most all cable systems. A slot for HDNet Movies would have to be made.

If Mojo is killed, and I hope it is, then Time Warner's incredibly shrinking "HD Pack" is down to three channels in most areas, HDNet, HDNet Movies, and Universal HD. It is time, however, for HD showcase channels like Mojo and the Voom channels to be put out to pasture as more and more mainstream channels become HD with real HD programming.

I'd trade MOJO for HDNet in a heartbeat on Cablevision. However, speculation is that we don't have HDNet now because Jim Dolan (Cablevision, NY Knicks) doesn't get along with Mark Cuban (HDNet, Dallas Mavericks). If true, I don't see that changing if MOJO goes away.

SeattleAl, here in Comcast Northern/Central NJ systems, what Comcast will be doing on 10/15 is to put MSG and MSG+ as full-time HD channels. On that same day, Mojo will be discontinued. So maybe, that's the day you'll get the Mariners HD channel and Fox Sports NW Hd channels coming online, who knows...

Why do people want MOJO-HD killed? I've personally enjoyed several programs from INHD later MOJO-HD:
1.) Brain Game 2.) Wall Street Warriors 3.) That show about startups 4.) Fields of glory (and all other related shows about ballparks, college stadiums, etc) and many more. In fact I've bugged them release some of these, esp. Wall St. Warriors, on blu ray (After all, the original content is HD, but it comes out on DVD??). They said it's in the works, but if MOJO-HD is cutting down to on demand only or gone, that might not happen, which sucks IMHO. |

Great news!!! Maybe TWC will finally trade that worthless channel for something that is actually good. And to think that channel is part of the 'extra charge' tier. I briefly had that tier and my conclusion about MOJO HD is they show programming for those who will watch a program in HD just for the sake of watching HD. It's crap. Pretty HD crap. But it's still crap.

It's a shame but I think part of the problem is that they invested in some really crappy programming. Three Sheets is fantastic but in future seasons they should expand the format to include more than just booze. I think either Travel or Food Network tried doing that with Zane and it didn't work out but I think Three Sheets is probably the most successful show on Mojo, so they'd have a captive audience. I also usually enjoyed Pressure Cook, Dr. Danger and After Hours but I haven't watched the channel at all lately because it's nothing but sports and those goofy financial shows. Their tech-focused shows could've been good but they were all pretty obvious paid adverts and that just made it boring.
I don't think the whole "channel for men" thing worked either. Any time you try and be so blatant with the "FOR MEN ONLY!" message (Maxim, FHM- I'm looking at you), the whole presentation just kinda comes off as juvenile and tacky in my opinion. Let's hope the good shows get a new home, as for the rest of it- who cares? All I ask is for Comcast to please replace it with something other than a sports channel. |

I think the time for Mojo has passed. Back when the only HD offerings were HD Net, HD Net Movies, HBO and Showtime, cable had an advantage saying they had two more HD channels than satellite. Two INHD channels were already combined into one Mojo as there became more competition for the bandwidth. The station never really took off with the public, so I can't see why the cable companies would want to pay to fund Mojo when another cable channel would pay for carriage and arguably be more popular.

This is from a letter to the CT DPUC from COX:
InDemand, the owner of MOJO RD, has announced that it will be canceling its MOJO HD regularly scheduled programming by the end of the year, but will continue to provide OnDEMAND programs. COX in CT is dropping MOJO on 10/29. http://www.dpuc.state.ct.us/DPUCUndo...b?OpenDocument |
