(Paused movie because kid needed attention) The EE on this IMHO is awful. REALLY prevalent in MANY scenes, even in some of the imax shots oddly) and to me is distracting. (The bat-voice is also about the worst artistic choice I've experienced in years too. Putting Bale's voice through a line 6 guitar processor? Makes him sound like he's vomiting razorblades IMHO. Not intimidating at all, just really dumb) I understand Batman is intentionally using it to disguise his voice but it just sounds meh.... Too bad about the EE. I'm glad I rented it. I honestly don't know how anyone can call this reference PQ. Way too processed and edgy looking. people with visible forcefields around them doesn't look very film-like to me. Ledger is amazing though. 92" screen, Ps3, Panny ae3000 1080PJ Last edited by Dave Mack; 12-09-08 at 10:01 PM.. |

I just got the Blu-ray and watched the opening few minutes of TDK. Right from the opening credits, the EE is definitely noticeable in the WB and DC Comics logos. I have the HD DVD of Batman Begins, and the opening logos have no such sharpening of the image. The open IMAX heist scenes looks great though. The switching ARs don't bother me, since I've seen the film twice theatrically in IMAX and am used to it.

Got the disc home today & I was only intending to watch a few scenes. Well that blew out the window as I was totally captivated & watched the whole movie.
I can see where the quality of the picture suffers just a little, but this is such a stellar piece of cinema it just does not make a difference. There is no way the 3rd picture can be this good.

This really isn't contributing anything further, but I'm annoyed enough with the what I'm seeing on my screen right now that I had to add to the chorus.
I'm about half way through the disc, and although I love the movie to death, I'm extremely disappointed with how often I'm ripped out of the viewing experience by the overprocessed image quality -- I'd almost call the presentation on the disc ugly. Reviews calling this reference quality are extremely off the mark. I'm not even running a front projector setup at the moment, just a 61" JVC D-ILA, and the edge enhancement/ringing is glaringly noticeable at 2 screen widths distance away, as well as a vague digitally processed "feel" to the image that even seems to make grain structure look oddly artificial. Its not a Phantom Menace level of awful, but its certainly the most high-profile blu-ray title that is annoying me with its failure to meet its own potential on technical marks. What a real shame. But what I'm more upset about is how forgiving (or even in denial of its issues) reviews are being of the image because its a great movie. The lossless audio track is excellent, however. |

Xylon, could you please clarify something for me? I think it was shot like this on purpose but on some scenes some parts are outta focus/blurry. After skimming through last night the two that stood out were: When Gordon is pissed in the bank and kicks the money, the money is blurry looking. Also, when Joker is meeting with mob guys and has all their stacks of money behind him, the left side of money stack is outta focus/blurry but the right side is crisp and looks in focus. Just wanting to have someone check those and make sure they are supposed to be like that. Thanks.
My impressions of pq is that the imax scenes are really impressive while the non imax scenes range from good to average. I love this movie as its one of my all time favs but even so I'm not gonna turn a blind eye to the pq. It is most definately not even close to some of the upper tier blu-ray transfers. Sure, it doesn't suck either but just sayin....thought it would be better. The aq on the other hand to me was astounding. I cranked it up and some of the scenes such as chase scenes were awesome. The bass had the whole house rattling as well. I didn't have any problems either with the dialogue sounding muffled, it was loud and clear. |

Oh well...
Do all you guys that are criticizing the PQ and EE etc etc find yourself enjoying a FILM less because you are distracted by all of these minor details? I hope not.. Last edited by rboster; 12-10-08 at 07:41 AM.. Reason: If your post was deleted...just move on |

No, neither did Katie Holmes in the first movie. Glad they fixed that storyline though. BTW - Jake.... way hotter than Maggie(and I don't even swing that way
).![]() I just got my disc and it is more distracting than I though it would be. At times it does look GONYish. Too processed. IMAX stuff looks fantastic though, switching aspect ratios aren't that bad(it would work better if the 35MM stuff wasn't so tweaked) Luckily Warner leaves the soundtracks untouched. ![]() Alexis Bledel is better than both Katie and Maggie.

Katie Holmes was in episodes 2 of Eli Stone this season, and she looked stunning. There was chemistry between her character & Batman in the first one which I found missing in the TDK.
BTW I will be borrowing the BD from my friend Friday next week, so I'll finally get the chance to see the PQ for myself. If it turns out I hate the PQ, then I wouldn't have even supported it via rental. |

I like Maggie but she just felt so very wrong in this movie, especially in this role. And while you can find pictures from certain angles that make her and Katie look similar, they actually look nothing alike. Maggie was very out of place in this movie (I loved her in Stranger than Fiction, however).

I agree. I didn't feel any real chemistry between Bruce and her charecter. I much missed Katie Holmes in this one. |

Never Ever Warn-her

If I was Nolan, I would asked Blunder Brothers to do the following.
1) Transfer/Encode from the source elements used for TDK prologue on the BB BD. 2) Retain aspect ratio as featured in the TDK prologue on the BB BD. 3) Retail color timing as featured in the TDK prologue on the BB BD. 4) Feature 24-bit audio. 5) Feature plain English subtitles in addition to English SDH. 6) Don't apply DNR / EE.

Aside from that, while they might not have been "trust fund kids", didn't the Gyllenhaal kids grew up with fairly well-to-do parents? Her father is a long time television director. They grew up in the industry. Vincent |
