PQ not impressive tonight. Very noisy lots of compression artifacts. The pregame show looked better. The video levels however are better than the last MNF game I remember seeing in the Superdome which looked kinda dull and flat. Skycam looks absolutely awful. The image has punch and if it wasn't noisy would be really striking, but with all the noise it just distracts. They are getting a lot bolder with the use of steadicam, he's basically in the huddle and (i guess) running a 4/3 out of the way. I'm amazed the refs haven't complained.

watching on the TSN rebroadcast up in toronto, canada. looks absolutely HORRIFIC. noisy, soft, washed out colours, tons of artifacts and blocking. only on the mail 50 yeard cam though...close ups look...well..not awesome, but passable...crowd and sideline shots are the same..
the main cam though is borderline unwatchable. absolutely brutal. |

I'm watching on DirecTV on an ISF calibrated 50" Panasonic plasma and I will concur that quality tonight is not so hot. The problem though are these stadiums that have the artificial field turf. Its terrible for television. Its not only a dull dark green but the turn itself has a sheen to it or glare from the lighting. This causes all the pixelation muck up. Watching a game with real grass in HD blows away any game with this artificial field turf. I hate watching games in Superdome, Lucas Oil Arena, the Metrodome, Foxboro, and Transair. They are the worst as the turf ruins PQ.

Yea what I'm seeing is compression noise like crazy. Stills look fine, they sat on a freeze of the All-22 camera way up top on a replay and it looked really amazing, but then they rolled the clip and as soon as there was motion it completely broke up. It's definitely not happening at the truck phase, it looks like the detail is there, the levels are good, colors are about right, but it is a compression mess. Not even sure what the issue with the skycam is, it doesn't even look HD and the colors are way off. Like bad RF or something. This show looks like old SNF.

Same story here on FiOS in Dallas. Horrible turf with lots of video noise, and even some blocking which is unusual for ESPN. Even the on-field cameras and the cablecam are bad, and they are usually at least halfway decent even when the main cameras aren't.

ESPN, you're HD MNF broadcasts stink!
And don't tell me it's the cable or dish providers fault it looks the way it does. IF that's the case, why would the sportscenter highlights look exactly the same, dull lifeless SD quality, while other highlights of games (FOX, CBS, NBC) look terrific. I miss the old ABC MNF days, quality seemed alot higher back then. And not to mention true 5.1!
