Is it bad to be at the max side for throw distance?

Is it bad for me to have the projector at 14.4 ft when the max is 15.5 for a 100" 2.35:1 screen?

Do you mean is it best to use min zoom and bring the projector back to increase image size rather than zoom? If so, then yes. You get better contrast.

I am just wondering if I should move it foward as I am near the max..should I mount it more towards 11' or so..or does it not really matter. I have heard it gets brighter as you get the projector closer to the screen.

So you have to then ask what is more important - a slightly brighter image or better blacks? Because you are using the zoom method, you need to ensure that your chosen throw allows for both 16:9 and 16:9s otherwize your not gong to achieve the result you want.

From the book:

100" screen throw distance..
2.35:1 min=10'6" max=15'5"

For 80" 16x9 screen
Min=7'10" max=15'5"

So I should be ok with that 14.5 distance...correct? From your statement are blacks better at further distances and brighter pic as you move the proj closer? Or vis versa? I was thinking of trying to move it another foot closer about 13.5'

My other dilema is only 13' wider room..I dont want the speakers up against the side wall..I would like to have 2 feet..but now I am down to 88" wide..

See my calcs below assuming 11inch wide speaker starting at edge of frame. These are using the Carada frame sizes from their website.

2.35:1
104" screen is 100" wide at the frame...which leaves 56...about 28" - 11 = 17" each side away from the wall...hmmm..not what I wanted.
96" screen is 92" wide at the frame...which leaves 64...about 32" - 11 = 21" each side away from the wall...better .. but not that much better...But.
88" screen is 85" wide at the frame...which leaves 71...about 35" - 11 = 24" each side away from the wall...so a bit more than 2 feet...

16x9
100" screen is 92" wide at the frame...which leaves 64...about 32" - 11 = 21" each side away from the wall
96" screen is 88" wide at the frame...which leaves 68...about 34" - 11 = 23" each side away from the wall
92" screen is 84" wide at the frame...which leaves 72...about 36" - 11 = 35" each side away from the wall
88" screen is 81" wide at the frame...which leaves 75...about 38" - 11 = 37" each side away from the wall

In theory, the wider the zoom the more light it lets out.
