way to "grab" stereo audio from HDMI?

Is there any way to "grab" or "tap" (for the lack of better terms) stereo audio from an HDMI cable? Do any simple and inexpensive adapters or anything exist?

I'd like to run the video/audio from an Xbox 360 to my TV using HDMI, but also "grab" the stereo audio to run to my stereo receiver/amplifier.

I am not familiar with the Xbox but does it not have R/L analog outputs? Does your TV have analog R/L analog outputs?

I thought the XBOX 360 had the ability to send 5.1 out an optical cable. That's you best option if it can do that. Optical out for audio and HDMI for video.

Or get an HDMI receiver.

I'm pretty sure that if he had an AVR, HDMI-capable or not, he wouldn't be asking the question.

Yeah, I forgot I was in 2 channel. From what I can tell from google, there's an audio adapter for the 360 that provides analog and digital outs.

No, it does not. It has a proprietary AV plug and a connector that has the R/L outputs. But when the AV connector is plugged in, it block the adjacent HMDI connector.

My TV (i.e. a Toshiba 46XV640U) has a set of variable outputs. But I want to be able to listen to the Xbox 360 without having to have my TV on. For example, when listening to a CD or streaming MP3s from my PC.

My receiver/amplifier (i.e. a Pioneer VSX-403) does not have optical inputs and buying a new one isn't an option for me at the moment.

Yeah, I've found adapters on eBay that plug in to the proprietary AV port and provide R/L outputs WITHOUT blocking the HMDI connector. Here's an example where I can get that connector and an HDMI cable packaged for $8 - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=380175235773 - so that's probably what I'll try.
