Since when does HD Theater show standard def shows?

Is it my imagination or is the show "Road Trip" zoomed standard definition? Sorry if this has been discussed before.

To my knowledge all programming on HD Theater is native HD.

Some of the Brit car shows that appear on Tuesday nights (Wheeler Dealers and Auto Trader) aren't native HD - they look zoomed. And I think the older episodes of Wrecks to Riches are shown in SD.

FWIW, every episode of Road Trip I've seen is HD. However, the British shows are PAL conversions.

WRC on HD theatre doesn't look too HD. Has lots of macroblocking. Could be TWC or HDT. The incar cameras look 16:9 SD while the regular shots look HD.

Road Trip looked very soft and didn't fill the screen horizontally (kinda like the airings of Hogans Heroes on HDNet). Just replaced my ancient CRT projector with a 1080p DLP and it really reveals the discrepancies in program quality.

This morning Trading Spaces was in SD zoomed to 14:9.

They are now showing the World Rally Championships and it's not even broadcast quality much less high definition. The graphics look like they were created on an Amiga and streamed on youtube. Remember when HD Theater's claim to fame was HD programs? Guess it is going the way of Music Television that no longer has music.

The "HD" WRC onboards on youtube look better than WRC on TV. It's ok if you watch it on an SDTV. I have a Samsung HD-DVR hooked up to a 20" SDTV and you can't tell if it's HD.

Thumbs down

What is most amazing is the fact they zoom more on HD Theater than the other Discovery networks. All kind of titling/names are cut off. Never mind that it is in no way fitting of their name.

But, this network is due for a name change anyhow. It is mostly cars and bikes theater. Perhaps this is the future and a name change is upon us? Horrible what they have done to this network though.

If you really wanted to get that particular (not that I don't agree), they should probably change the names of 1/2 to 3/4 of the channels out there.

No argument here. This is, unfortunately, so true. They all want to be general cable nets and not the niches cable was built upon.

screenshot of Sardenia Rally

I also noticed the pixellated look of the Rally Sardenia episode (#6) last night when watching it on my DVR. The other episodes of WRC have not looked like this at all. Only this episode has looked like this so far, even their commercials during the broadcast looked normal and clear. Have not had the opportunity to watch episode #7 yet.
