I like a CRT picture. not sure totaly why, but I do prefer it.
I trust you guys if you say I can get the fan noise out. I'll try it. I have a lot of patience for this kinda thing. This is my first large scale Home theater setup in a designated room and it will take me some time to fully complete. My Wilsonart designer white laminate arrived on Friday and I'll be constructing the screen in the next few weeks as I finish off and continue work on other areas of my basement. Thanks again guys! |

You are most welcome Billy.
I am sure that you will like the end results once you put in the work required to get that type of a picure quality! Do you have a FuryII or a Moome type input card for your M8500? What type of a source device do you have...or planning to use? Let us know so that we could point you to the right path/direction. Martin |

If even after the fan mod its still too noisy you could build a hush box around the pj. If you do plan now before you finish the theater by adding duct work to feed cool air to the hush box and a exhaust duct to draw the hot air out. on a marquee most air comes out the top and back and the red tube side and front draw air in as does part of the blue tube side(frontside exhausts LVPS air) the middle sides draws air to the belly fans.

The marquees air circulation system is pretty sophisticated and does a decent job of it....so do not be attempted to modify it in anyway...just change the fans and you will most likely be glad with the results. As far as a hush box...It is a nice addition but it is not absolutely necessary from my experiences dealing with my marquees. Now if you had an nec I would have said it is a must, but not with the marquee, since you are most likely going to table mount it from what I understand of your ceiling height issue! Good luck Martin |

no, I have a 8' 9" ceiling so I believe I can ceiling mount it. But I'm still hoping to save as much height as possible and keep it as tight as a I can using unit-strut type setup.
I did install a moome card last year (Yes, it’s been just sitting around in my basement all covered up that long!) but I don’t have the new version. I just got an oppo BDP-83 from Amazon, and am awaiting my HDMI cables from monoprice as of now.... Just picked up my Winsonart D354-60 from Home Depot. Doing a 92" diag. 16:9 screen (45" x 80") What would you guys recommend for a substrate for the Wilsonart? I wanna keep the screen as flat as possible for best PQ. I was thinking 3/4" MDF...thoughts? I was going to just make the screen exactly 45" x 80" and let the image just fall off the edges onto my flat black front wall of the theater. The Theater room is all done & pre-wired, except baseboard, so it's too late for any kind of ductwork for a hush box. That’s why I was so concerned about the noise of the beast. But I'll try the Fan mods after I get it up and running and mounted on the ceiling. |

...for a screen I use a painted wall!
I bought the two stage paint that goo systems had a few years back and it still looks great. (Very uniform and produces a nice bright picture!) The base paint is the CRT white that they had, but I substituted the top coat with their higher gain paint material! (Forgot what it was rated as gain wise!) I too experimented with the material you mentioned above, (Parkland plastics 10 by whatever they had and the blueish MDF or whatever it is called!) ...but this 2 stage paint setup seems to be the best way to go...(...at least to my eyes!) You might wanna check them out...the only thing that was hard with that was to get the wall to be perfect and blemish free for painting! (.. and I sprayed it instead of a roller!) ...if I were to guess the gain I would have to say is probably in the neighborhood of 1.7 gain. Martin |

I don't se any reference or explanation to the fact that the silentX 12 volt fan is being installed on a 24V power line?

I'd prefer to have the exact voltage fans to replace what is in there now, so I dont have to modify any circuitry.
So the 2 stock power supply 8500 fans are (2) 24 volt units? What model Pabst fans/cfm do I need to make sure I dont mess up the cooling system, and just make everything much quieter. Last edited by Billy Gun; 11-16-09 at 10:43 PM.. Reason: error |

yes the stock fans are 24VDC and keep in mind to get them quiet requires some kind of isolation from the sheet-metal enclosure. Also, be careful when re-assembling the upper and lower halves of the PS to re-connect everything correctly, especially the 24 pin cable.

Some folks use a separate PS for the non 24V fans!
Billy...I have done this mod on a M9000 and it requires some work to do it right...but the results are well worth the effort! Good luck with it and let us know if you have any issues! Here are the part numbers: DC FAN 24 VOLT (80MMX25MM) - P8414 (External:25mm; Flow Rate:56.03m³/h; Noise:35dB; Width, External:80mm; Flow Rate, Imperial:33cu.ft/min; Length / Height) 35Dbs are like a huge silent computer fan ...like a nacuah or something... there are quieter ones...will post the numbers once i find them I forgot what size the marquee ones are. DC Centaur III CNDC24K4-607 120x120x38 mm 24V Fan is another one you can use. but it is more expensive and larger...but supposedly quieter! Try this place to find a suitable replacement...there database is quite nicely done and saves a lot of time...the rpices are in pounds but once you find the correct fan you can then source it out. http://cpc.farnell.com/dc This Papst is 12dbs and it is 24 volt: FAN, 80MM 24VDC Bearing Type:SB; Connection Type:Lead; Current Type C; External Depth:25mm; External Width:80mm; Flow Rate:9.2l/s; Noise:12dB; Series:8400N;Here is a complete howto for the belly fans: http://81.167.6.229/Public/CRT-Proje...eefanguide.pdf The LVPS ones are on the other page.
