Well, the pj is expecting PC levels from the VGA input. PC's map grayscale to 0-255, while other sources use 16-235. Effectively, your black is at 0, instead of at 16, and your white is at 255...what should be black on screen at 16 is actually being shown as a shade of grey.
I believe you need to set your X box to expanded if you have that option.
With component, you can send 1080p, but only with SD-DVD and I believe HD-DVD. You cant with Blu ray since it's blocked by copyright.
I don't have an X-Box, so I can't be absolutely sure...but this is the way it works for every other device I know of.
