Digital Video Essentials. It's the latest in a series of calibration discs.

I bought the standard vesion of DVE and I still can't figure out half of what they are trying to say. The made things a little more complicated than it had to be. Now I am wondering if the HD version is any different or any more user friendly.

dvdempire just pushed the release date back to Jan 30, 2007. It was Nov 30 yesterday. I would guess it has been delayed and the online order sites are catching up one by one. Not too surprising, I seem to remember that previous versions of Video Essentials pushed back the initial release dates as well.

Amazon now shows DVE with no firm date of availability...I wonder if I should cancel it in my order, as it is holding up 8 other HD dvds (free shipping).
Can anyone confirm that DVE has shipped?
Thanks
Paul

I wouldn't give up hope. Previous Video Essential releases were late as well, but they did eventually get released. They even released a version for D-Theater (aka D-VHS). I also seem to remember reading the Joe Kane is a supporter of HD DVD.

I have it ordered in Amazon as well, with other items and with that option to have as few shipments as possible... They sent teh other stuff in the order today, and left the DVE HD DVD disc alone for future shipment.

The same thing happened when DVE was released on SD DVD. It kept getting delayed and took a while until it finally came out.

Hello All,

While there have been some delays, as you can all see, I can GUARENTEE that DVE HD DVD is being authored as we speak. As with all new technologies, there are times when problems arise which simply could not have been foreseen.

I will make sure everyone on AVS forum knows as soon as we have a firm release date. DVD International, the company distributing HDScape will be distributing DVE HD DVD.

Thank you for your understanding. As you may know, Joe Kane would never let a product out his door that is not of the highest caliber. It will be worth the wait!

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,

Thanks for the update. From your post should I assume I will not be getting my disc on December 1? Amazon notified me initially that the November 14th date had been delayed, I have not been sent another notification from them NOT to expect my copy on Friday. I guess I will cancel since there is no known date for release. I will probably pick up a copy once I know I can go out and get it a Best Buy. What is the problem with this disc?

I had it on order from Amazon but cancelled when I discovered it only outputs 1080p and 720p.

My Pioneer SD643HD5 will handle 1080i but not 1080p and 720p.

I think you are confused about something. All HD DVDs store the data at 1080p. This disc may include 720p. The resolution at which this is output is a function of the player. The current HD DVD players output at 1080i.

If that's the case, then I'll probably reorder.

Thanks.

Amazon has been a little slow with updated our expected release dates.

The problem with this disc is that Microsoft, who is co-authoring this disc in association with Joe Kane Productions, is using some authoring techniques and technologies for the first time. Because some of what they are doing has never been done with HD DVD, they are running into some unexpected problems. As quality control is obviously of the highest importance with this disc, there are NO shortcuts being taken, to ensure the best final product possible.

Best,
Jeff

Sounds good! I hope it doesn't take too much longer.

Let's just hope that the navigation method in the HD DVD version isn't as horrible as the SD version.

Every time I use that disc, it's an exercise in frustration. Maybe for people who use it on a daily basis, the way it's set up is good, but my inability to easily get to a test pattern that I wish to use is very frustrating.

I'm looking forward to this release, but I really hope that the usability issues of the SD version have been corrected.

Could you provide any insight as to the menu structure and navigation on the new disc, Jeff?

BigScreen I could not agree more... everytime I use it, I wonder if I am the only idiot who can't get to what he wants quickly. Good to hear I am not the only one who struggles.

I hesitate to go into much about the structure of DVE HD DVD - as the title is not complete, certain things that were initially planned may change in the course of discovering authoring difficulties.

I will say, however, that HDi will be utilized. I believe this will help alleviate many of the difficulties some customers ran into with DVD Essentials

Why would they even publicize a release date if the thing isn’t even completed?
