Sorry if this have been posted already. Looks like Circuit City will have it in stock on February 1, 2007. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I guess we will wait and see.
Ok, endgadget is reporting that this player will be for sale at BB on 4 FEB. Also, in the comments thread a guy is saying that it is for sale, already, at a few CompUSA's

That was me and it is for sale at CompUSA. Not sure how many but the store near me has them, three in fact. I posted some short term impressions on the other thread and took a bunch of pics which should be on EngadgetHD sometime soon. I will dump them to my photobucket and post them in the other thread as well if anyone's interested in seeing it.
Phil
Edit I will post them after work tonight so if you want to see them give me a bit to do it. Should be sometime after 6pm Central.
Yes, it plays the discs so it could be considered a player but there is no HDi functionality to speak of. As far as playback is concerned I came away pretty impressed to be honest. There's no HD DVD logo anywhere to be found and they make it very clear that a/v is the only thing this deck does with HD DVD discs. Still, for the price it's a hell of a lot better value than buying a standalone BD deck. I'd have considered it had I already not invested in standalones for each format.

So will it handle U-Control features like on Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift? The differences and characteristics of HDi are still a bit confusing to me at this point.
Nope, U-Control isn't suppored. Bummer too but for those not caring about such extras it does everything it's advertised to, and not too shabbily I might add.
If it advertises HD DVD, it will need to comply to all HD DVD specifications. If, however, they do not advertise it as playing HD DVD (even though it would) then the DVD Forum probably would have no legal grounds to prohibit its sale.

It won't do the HDi-enabled pop-up menus but it will do the regular DVD-style intro menus just fine. HDi-enabled functionality just won't work, which sucks. Still, like I said before if you really don't care and just want to watch the discs it's definitely an option.
edit I was mistaken, the pop up menus work, they're just plain without the movie specific animation that happens on a normal HD DVD player. Just hit the disc menu and it pops up as a generic looking menu.
DD+ 5.1 and TrueHD 2.1 are supported. It does support DTS-HD in 5.1 though, although I don't know if it's via full HD or just the standard 1.5mbps core.

Because not everyone wants to use a videogame machine as a movie player. For a limited market it will be a value, for sure. Maybe not to you but to someone it will be. I know someone who already bought the new LG deck.
