exojam, i love the departure from the darth vader look--way to try to fit the decor while adding something as big as a water heater to your home. very clean and neutral.

hey vitod, if you get a chance could you snap a couple pictures of your sub next to a bottle or person to get a better idea of size? I am thinking of building a box pretty much to those exact specs but am nervous it would be too big.

sorry, no i didnt. my wife had the digi cam with her when i built it so the only pics i have are of it completed.
i went this route because i had no way of bringing home a sonotube.
the dimensions of the box are 22x24x46 without the legs and base. the legs are 4.5" long.
theres extensive bracing every 10 inches if i remember correctly.

Subwoofer and PR is a Danny Richie of GR-Research design, 12" down-firing woofer with 12" passsive radiator running off a 250W RMS plate amp (ApexSr). It was tough to find any analytical evidence on what to expect from the sub. I did build a 110 pound enclosure that is 21" cube ( my own design)- 1-1/2" walls with large cross brace to boot. Black hole5 on all interior surfaces. VERY solid enclosure- I figured I could put a rhtymik kit in it at a later time if the GR Research driver did not pan out. The inlay is Burl Veneer and the 1-3/4""molding on all outside edges is Brazilian cherry. The cherry started as solid 2"x2" and then painstakingly rabbeted to make it fit the MDF panels below. The 4 vertical pieces of cherryuace have no visible glue line- these had to be routered and chiseled out leaving the top and bottom corners solid wood (you can see the darker endgrain in the photos of the top. I would definitely NOT want to do it all again but it truly is something I am proud of- still needs several more coats of danish oil...
