Onkyo 805 8ohm and 4ohm?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I have 5 Infinity P362's that say 8ohm in the paperwork.
I currently have them configured in L/C/R and 2 at 90 degrees surround.
Would it be possible to take 2 of them, wire them in parallel to 4 ohms and hook them up to the left front, then do the same thing on the right?

Basically 2 Left fronts and 2 right fronts with 1 center and then add something smaller for surround and surround back?

It would have the L/R at 4ohms and everything else at 8ohms.

I'm looking for more SPL from L/R fronts.

I am not sure hooking two speakers in parallel will give you more sound. The receiver has only one power supply. All speakers are being driven from that same supply. Also note that two equal sources of sound will give you a 3 dB increase, which is not that much.

That being said, you can try it if you like. My guess is that the Onkyo can handle it at reasonable volumes. A 4 ohm load will cause the transistors to run hotter and could result in the receiver's thermal protection circuit being activated.

Do you want more sound for movies or music? If you want more sound for two channel music, get a $200 stereo amp, like a Mackie, Crown, QSC, Behringer or Audio Source. Look for sales. Most should accept an unbalanced connection via their 1/4" inputs.

I guess you could, but it would more than likely affect the imaging of the speakers. If you really want to try it, why not set the receiver for bi-amp mode and hook the 4 towers up that way for the front L/R channels. I really don't see how there can be an improvement by doing this, but if you have the time, why not try it to see if you like it.

You could also just run them in all channel stereo with the current setup for music and skip the smaller surrounds?

Never did try it.
Guess I'm going to need more amp and better speakers.
I'm working on building 2 Maelstrom-X's in the sub forum.
I guess when I get done with that I will look into building some towers.

I'm thinking I should be researching a music forum.
It wasn't until I got going that I realized music is way more important to me than home theater.
