Coship CECB

http://dtv.bsat.net/pc-16-2-coship-9...ertor-box.aspx

Anyone have any experience with this CECB? What caught my interest was the "7 days Electronic Program Guide (EPG)".

Also listed in the specs is "Picture in graphics (PIG) supported". What's that?

PIG - Means it gives you a smaller window of whatever channel you have tuned in when you go into the guide and/or possibly other screens.

The problem with them advertising a 7-day EPG is that the stations often don't put out 7 days of EPG data. I think they are supposed to do 3 days minimum, but one of my local stations (WCAU-DT) is putting out no guide data at all, and one of the others is giving less than 12 hours.

FCC rules REQUIRE 12 hours minimum. I send 48 hours of EPG on my stations.

I googled "Picture in graphics (PIG)" and only came up with one article and it was about Samsung, written in 2004, before they released the DTB-H260F. I wonder if the internals of this box are Samsung?

Most stations in my range do similar. I was wondering if the 7 day EPG meant it might get a Gemstar guide, or if it just means the unit has enough memory to hold 7 days worth of data, if available.

Highly doubt it. PIG isn't something Samsung came up with. It's exactly what mjones said; it displays whatever you are watching in a smaller window over the EPG. Satellite and cable box manufacturers have been including this feature in their boxes for years.

If anyone has one of these already..a mini-review would be much appreciated. The clock is ticking...coupons are already in self-destruct mode.

The reason that the coupons are good for but 90 days is that was what the representatives in Congress specified. It will take an Act of Congress to change that. Contact your Representatives.

Hit "Browse Products Here" on that page, and you'll also see an "Artec" CECB tuner, which will only cost 5 bucks.

Yea, that caught my eye as it supposedly runs on 12v.. and may be good for use with battery portable Tv's.. Not sure I want to use one of my cards for the Artec tho..

Oh so true. In my area 12 hrs is the norm. Occasionally they will go out 3 days, maybe when the person entering in the data is having a slow day, otherwise it's much less.
I was hoping something like the Echostar TR-40 would use a guide system other than the PCIP ones, which most boxes seem to rely on. Something like what their TR-50 will have(Gemstar?). Maybe I'm just dreaming. If they all rely on PCIP I guess the current/next program guides might not be such a big deal. 7 days for PCIP is kind of a joke, unless things dramatically change.

Has anyone ordered this box yet?
BSAT no longer has it listed on the home page but you can see it and maybe order it here.
http://dtv.bsat.net/pc-16-2-coship-9...ertor-box.aspx

We have the User Manual thanks to ezdigitaltv
We also have a FCC ID VXF2007122901
With this we can see the internal and external photos.

What I would like to see the the EPG and how it was implemented for a 7 day guide

Coship N9988t

Hmm... COSHIP also has another model listed on the NTIA website, the N9988T. I wonder how this model/unit differs?

Symbios,

Where did you find a picture of the new Coship? I have been searching for N9988T information and have been unsuccessful.

Standard Disclaimer: The CECBs are only for over the air reception. If you only watch cable TV or satellite DBS, don't sweat the converter (for 2009).

What's the TV make and model?

The specifications in the owners manual should reference ATSC if it has a digital tuner. If you don't have the manual, the manufacturer's web site may have the specs.

Other clues:
Does the remote control have a "." button? One that says "EPG"? Was the TV manufactured in the last two years?

Well the problem is, a friend of mine was throwing this T.V out when i got it. I cant find the model number anywhere, and I also don't have a remote. Its in rough shape. all i know is its a big screen Mitsubishi probably about 3-4yrs old.

You're in luck. Mitsubishi has the Owner's Guides online for download. See
http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/j/i/183...tml?mid=142950

Without the model number, you'll have to poke around some to find the right guide, but it should be there, and it'd be worth downloading/saving/printing, IMO.

I glanced at a few at random. I didn't find an integral digital tuner before 2006. So, odds are good that you'd need a converter. However, if your TV is one of their large rear-projection units from 2004 or so, you might consider getting a set top box that outputs HD, instead of a CECB. That is, if you find out your TV is HD ready, like many of the recent large Mitsubishis.

It does look like I'll end up needing a converter box but thats fine, I just wanted to be sure before placing any orders, and now I also have brand new guides for my T.V. Thanks.

interesting that Saving lots site list the CoShip N9988T with the same design as the Promo picture except its black. http://www.savinglots.com/lotprod.asp?item=N9988T
Think it would be nice to hear a review about this one and
if they did stick with the LGDT1111 SoC?

You are getting a CoShip N9900T and not a CoShip N9988T right.

Looking at the user manual it looks very similar to the Artec menus.
I wonder if it has the same EPG as the Artec
(Looks like a plain Now/Next but can get more than an hour of data)

If you can please take a picture of the EPG.
You could also clear up what the "Picture in graphics (PIG)" means.

It also looks like it has ventilation holes unlike the Artec.
But the Artec does have a external power supply.
However there is no heat sink like the Tivax has.
