Sharp LC-32D44U

I just purchased this TV on Saturday, and I must say, I'm impressed. The picture clarity and color are excellent ( with the default "dynamic" picture mode set) The sound, while not worth bragging about, is definately acceptable, with "SRS" and an EQ adjustment as options. Besides, most people will pump into an amplifier anyway, but we use this in our bedroom and it's quite listenable.
The inputs ( 6 or 7 of them, including 2 HDMI) have the option to label them, while not with a direct input label, the menu gives you a nice choice of pre set descriptions. (IE Satellite, DVD, Etc.) The 7500:1 contrast presents a nice deep black, and I have noticed no banding so far.
The only quirks are that the options for aspect ratio are somewhat strange, instead of 4:3, 16:9, you get "Full Screen" "Stretch" "Zoom", and the remote could use backlit, but is fairly well laid out. The channel change, as in most LCD's ( at least the 2 that I have) has noticeable latency.I may be spoiled by my Sammy, which has 2 F connectors for Coaxial cable inputs ( one for HD Antenna, One for Satellite input) The Sharp only has one. (minor complaint, really)

The menu options are plentiful and there are many variables available in the menu's. I recommend this with a 4.5 out of 5 stars, especially if you can find one for under $800.00 as I did.

Have you noticed how good the refresh rate is on it, also is it banding free.

The specs list the refresh rate @ 6ms, and I haven't done formal Banding tests yet.

ok guys I just bought this tv from Costco. The model # is not LC32D44U but the LC-C3234U, however The LC-C3234U is the LC32D44U spec wise. The one thing I notice this year compare to the LC32D43U is that in advance menu you have more options; such as you can change the Hue and saturation now

Carefully look at the pictures before you buy- last years is better for me

The inputs are all the way on the back on this model, meaning if you have it wall mounted you may not be able to easily make cable connections. I have the prior model snug up against the wall and having the inputs on the side are a definite + for me (though I'm sure the opposite preference is out there).

I'm wondering why they changed the design so much.. maybe it's not truly a sharp but something else re-badged?

Anyway, my local Costco had both 32" sharps so you can compare.

I own last years Costco model Sharp which I think is either the 3242 or 3243, it is Aquos labeled and Sharp made. My local Costco still only has the older ones (and still quite a few stacked up in inventory). I have yet to see the new 3234, is it labeled an Aquos? If so, it should not be a rebadged version.

Re:the inputs, my Sharp 52" & 57" have the same crappy input design on the back. Just buy all of your cables ahead of time and plug in before mounting.

yes it is a Aquos, so the panel is made in Japan but assembly in Mexico

you sure its not fully made in japan,i kinda want to stay away from sharps that are assembled there.i think thats the birthplace of sharp's banding.

Yes only the panel is made in Japan. My set does not have any banding at all. It seems the larger size panels made my sharp (40+) are plague with banding.

Just bought the LC-C3234U from Costco - so far very good. Although it seems to find lots of digital channels that are just blank with some sort of stereo signal... BTW - I have Comcast Digital...

The "birthplace" for banding is not an assembly line, it's the factory where the mother glass substrate is manufactured.

The only thing I don't like is were they place all the inputs. I wish there on side like last years models.

Ok,just back from getting the my 44u.And so far so good.I like this tv alot. Not gonna register it with Sharp until im fully assured there aren't any problems...........By the way,i still believe that mexico plays a major role in Sharps banding problems. As in other manufacturing plants, alot of the products problems has to do with the assembling.

You'd probably get all of those channels with Comcast basic FYI. Try without the set top box and if it's good enough you might be able to save some $$.

i cant compare this to the 43u,as i know little about the set.But after looking at the spec sheet of both, the 44u is superior. It has a contrast ratio of 7500,and this 43u only has 6000.There is probably not a day-night difference there, but there has to be a diffrence or else they would not make the 44u.What i do know is,the 44u's cabinet is much slimmer then the 43u's.

I am torn between the sammy LNT 3253 or the Sharp LCC 3234U from COSTCO. I am assuming the 44 and 34 Sharp's are the same , but the sharp support wouldn't comfirm. They did say the 34 does not have the QAM tuner. The Sammy would be 20% more if I bought the Sharp w/coupon.

the 34 is the same has the new 44 series. The sharp rep had no clue what he/she was taking about. For $650 for a sharp is a steal
