Question ALC889a w/ DTS Connect - Driver "hack" to get bit perfect?

I just built a PC with a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 motherboard (under WinXP) that uses a ALC889A with DTS Connect. To my surprise I found that the sampling rate is locked to 48kHz, whereas it seems like the drivers for the ALC889A without DTS connect don't lock the sampling rate to 48kHz and allow it to be selected.

I have been poking around the Realtek driver package trying to figure out if it's possible to force the installation of the driver for non DTS connect version, but it isn't very straight forward since one driver package supports both versions.

I noticed in my registry that it has the DeviceID for the Realtek chip in my system as hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0885 I would expect that the ALC889A without DTS connect has a different Device ID. I'm hoping that once I know what it is the drivers can be modified to force install for the non DTS connect version.

Can someone with an ALC889A without DTS connect see what the device ID is? The easiest way to find that is to navigate to: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ select it and then search (CTRL+F) for "Realtek High Definition Audio" (less the quotes). A few lines under the "Driver Description" Key you should see a Key called, "MatchingDeviceId". You can double click it and then copy the value to the clipboard and then paste it in a reply.

Thanks!

I've got a gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R with the non dts connect ALC889a I couldn't find the device id in the registry like you said, but I found this under the device properties tab in windows - hope it helps.

Code:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0885&SUBSYS_1458A002&REV_1001

Odd... You have the same Device ID with the non DTS Connect version.

Are you running XP or Vista?

Mine is:

HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0885&SUBSYS_1458A002&REV_1001\4 &2F116ED5&0&0201

Weird... It's the same as yours except for the very end, but yet I have a DTS connect version and you don't.

So the real question is how is the one a DTS connect version and the other isn't.

I've always assumed the chips to be the same hardware-wise and the difference was in the software. I actually would like to try the opposite, install the DTS connect part using a non-DTS connect enabled chip (again, I'm assuming all this is done in software)

I was looking for something else tonight and came across some information that might help in this matter. Looked interesting at least.

This lists Realtek HD chip information in a chart
http://www.realtek.com.tw/images/pro...tion_Guide.jpg

Below is partial information from Realtek's HD readme. I think the rest is from older versions, didn't read it all carefully. Different stuff for XP. Not that it also mentions needing a new Microsoft High Definition Audio Driver Package - KB888111. This is the link for it.

I stumbled upon this thread by a search engine. I like the idea that it's possible to do DTS Connect and DD Live with a onboard Realtek ALC888(m). Can someone who has the ALC888 with DTS Connect, tell me what his registervalues are?

Can someone do a Cliff Notes version of this thread?

If I had a ALC889a without DTS Connect, can I "turn on" the DTS Connect? If so, how?

There is nothing to cliff note. So far there is no evidence you can software manipulate the chips.
