If you are looking for information on anything regarding the new line of Samsung LNxxA750 LCD TVs you've come to the right place.

This first post will be regularly updated and contain a summary of information regarding these TVs. So, if you want to know what's happening in this thread, check this post first.

Differences between the LNxxA650 and LNxxA750:

• 750 has an integrated woofer
• 16-bit processor vs. 12-bit in 650 (10-bit panel in both)
• 750 has DLNA features (can stream audio/video/etc. over a home network)
• 750 can play video off of DLNA/USB flash drive. 650 limited to images/audio
• 750 comes with 1GB internal flash memory pre-loaded with HD pictures, games, recipes, and a few other things
• 750's controls on the bezel have a red backlight. 650's controls have no backlight
• 750 has a square bezel compared to the 650's rounded bezel
• 750 has a square stand compared to the 650's oval stand
• 750 stand does not swivel (contrary to Samsung's literature)

Known Issues:

• The 'Halo' Effect: Some people have noticed that the clear surrounding of the 750 bezel acts as a sort of fiber optic transfer for the screen.
  
  What this means, is that at certain angles, and in certain darker lighting conditions, the bezel will dimly light up with the colors that are on the screen. This appears somewhat like a 'halo' encircling the TV. Some people find this hugely distracting, others couldn't care less. It's up to you to see it and decide for yourself. This is a purely aesthetic effect as the result of the bezel design and has nothing to do with the electronic hardware.
  
  Here's an example of the effect. Better pictures will be posted as they become available. Notice the glow on the top of the bezel. As said previously the presence of the effect is very dependant on lighting condition and viewing angle.

DLNA Certified Explanation:
The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is an organization dedicated to enabling consumer devices to share information between each other over a home network.

What this means is that the 750 series TV's are able to display streaming content from a computer. First you must connect the TV to your network. Then you must install the included Samsung software on your PC and you should be good to go. This does not work with the wireless adapter (sold separately). The DLNA network must be connected via a normal broadband networking cable. (i.e. CAT-5)

People have reported that the free software TVersity (www.tversity.com) will also work with the TV and may be somewhat more user friendly.

Here are the currently supported file types that the 750 can display: (More types may be supported. Samsung has stated they're updating the user manual to reflect all supported file types)

(Resolutions are the maximum resolution that file type can be displayed)


Wiselink PRO Explanation:
Wiselink PRO is the TV's ability to play media stored on a USB flash drive. To use this feature, simply place the drive in the Wiselink USB port located on the side connections panel and then navigate the appropriate menus.

All of the same file types from DLNA are supported over Wiselink PRO.

USB harddrives such as an external hdd or an iPod are not supported. Attach these at your own risk as owners of other models of Samsung TVs have reported that trying to access files on these resulted in bricking the TV.

***Note: The NTFS formatting system is not supported. The drive must be formatted in FAT32.***

Hi guys,
I am happy to see that the 7 Series finally has a home. I was tempted to do it myself but I doubt it would be as good as the initial post (Great Job!!).

I use to own the LN46A650 but decided to wait for the LN46A750 because of the 650's reset issue(Which is now fixed by the way). My girlfriend loved the 650 but I loved the bezel more on the 750.

Soooo... I bought the 46" 750 from Amazon at the lowest price that they had it for. I am excited and I can't wait to get it.

The picture on the 650 is amazing. I expect the 750 to be just as good if not better as there is a rumor about the 750 having more bits (The numbers are not constant so I will refrain from saying) for processing.

Anyway, if anyone has the 750 and have picture of this beautiful creature, please put it up ASAP (Like now).

Samsung Canada's site specs say 4ms while US site says 6ms - which is correct?

I was really set to pull the trigger on one of these until the "HALO EFFECT".
I checked it out at local store and it was definitely there. Standing about ten feet away it was bad at that viewing angle. If I stood on my toes it went away - if I went back flat footed it was there again - if I knelt lower it was gone, so it was specific to the viewing angle. It was like a projector that needed the picture scaled down to fit the screen - at least across the top.

You know... for those of you having the Halo effect (Which really isnt a technical bug of the 750), you can get rid of it all together by wall mounting your TV at eye level and then angle it at 15 degrees downward. If you sit head on in the middle of the set you will see this Halo... just my 2 cents on that matter.

I personally think that the features on this TV make it more ideal for someone techy like myself (My computer is at the heart of all my media). If you were weighing price against picture quality and features in regards to the 650 and the 750 then this TV is not for you because you will find a reason to take it back and get the 650 because they both have comparible picture quality.

My next comment may trigger some emotion which may cause you to lash out at what im about to say, but I believe in order for this thread to be productive and informative for people who want to keep this TV, then please post only technical issues that affect owners of the TV.

Yes... the HALO effect has been established, but lets just kill it from this point on because it is not really a technical issue. Let people decide if they can deal with the Halo just as how they decide if they like the TOC.

From reading all the 650 posts, which I still do, I have come to notice that people linger on things that dont matter.... lets not make this thread like that.

Lets all just enjoy this TV and share our experiences...

Bought the 46" from HHG today (best price in town and the sales guy was very knowledgeable) it'll be delivered tomorrow.

I went with the 750 over the 650 because I like the bezel and the sound was more rich. It was only a couple hundered bucks more and since I don't always use my surround sound it's a good value for me.

I'll report in soon with my in-home experiences with the 750 and pass on any calibrations/settings that bring even more life to it.

I would like to see something added to the main post about a deeper breakdown about the DLNA abilities. Confirmed reports about file types it will play and such. Someone mentioned using tversity(.com) instead of the program that comes with the tv as it's more user friendly. Is this possible?

edit: also, I'm not 100% sure how the whole DLNA system works.. Does the pc do any video processing (possible better codec coverage using tversity) or is it all done by the tv?

ok just got mine hooked up and turned on and wow the picture is incredible. I had a Panny 50" plasma and this blows the picture on that away. I am no where near an expert on calibration so I am interested in seeing what others are tuning their's at.

Oh and so far I have not noticed the halo effect on mine.

I posted a couple of important unanswered questions on the previous thread so would be grateful on feedback from owners on the following;

Here in the UK we have had a fairly widespread issue with Samsung LCD's.

It has affected three ranges, including the new 6 series and I was wondering whether it was a problem on the US model 750.

It's been called the Hum Bar fault by Samsung UK and is caused by internal Electro Magnetic Interference resulting in scrolling bars which vary in both speed and thickness on different Hz values.

It can only really be seen when the TV is on picture modes other than the factory default Dynamic and at backlight values below 5.

Anyway here's three videos of how it has manifested itself. The first two show the slower, thicker hum bars;

and this one shows the faster moving thinner bars that appear as a flicker, this is a fairly extreme example though as the flicker I saw on the 6 series was less pronounced, but definitely there.

I currently have a 71F series which used to have these bars on all inputs.

They cured them on 50Hz and 60Hz but there's still a problem with 24Hz for Blu-Ray.

It was also on Blu-Ray I saw the problem on the new 6 series so if anyone would like to test for this there are two movies I can recommend to see it.

24Hz - Using Kung Fu Hustle Blu-Ray @ 01:47 from start of movie. Brown wall in Police Station easily shows hum bars / flicker if it is present.

Also the one I saw on the 6 series, Superman Returns. In the scenes with Kevin Spacey on his yacht such as this;




If you focus on the cream background that's where I saw the flicker.

Remember any mode other than Dynamic (I used Movie mode for Blu-Ray) and a backlight less than 5.

(Just to clarify - the above pic doesn't show the fault at all, it is merely a random cap of the movie I found on the web to show the type of scene to look for)

I hope I've explained it well enough as it's been a pretty big issue over here and I'm hoping it's not present on the 750 series.

I'm happy with it,
also the halo everyone is talking about is non exsistant on my set,
I try-ed to reproduce it to no avail. even moved a lamp around it lol....
Maybe my TV is defective?! hahahahahhaha( joke joke)
watched a few movie credits and played a few games. still nothing for the inner rim.
keep in mind that the outer rim is supposed to show the halo effect,
it was designed on purpose for that.

I have not noticed a purple haze on mine yet, but I also do my viewing from head on because of the cabinet it is in. I am having a custom cabinet built so that I can actually sit in other areas of my room to watch.

Ok so I've had my 52a750 for a week now and I found some tiny white dots (dead pixels?) on 1 part of the screen the size of the tip of a needle. The following day (yesterday) I looked for these little white dots and I could not find them (although it was a completely dark room when I saw them so I'm going to check again tonight). Before I got this set I returned 2 LNA550s with tiny white dots that were a little bit bigger than this one. I read in the manual that these sets come with a sub panel that requires sophisticated technology to produce and that finding some bright or dark pixels is normal and will not harm the overall performance. Is anyone else seeing tiny white dots anywhere on their screen that later dissapeared? I mean you really have to get up to your screen to see them but is this acceptable for a $3k+ TV? Oh and thanks to everyone who is contributing to this forum.

thanks for the info, now a technical question in USB mode if you have a file which is say a divx but the resolution is not that say xvid is 700x540 will it still play ? if its in the perimiter of max resolution ?

I'm sorry, you can't be anymore wrong. The video says nothing about what you stated. I had a 650 first, returned it for the 750 for DNLA, returned the 750 due to the halo. I am now waiting for whatever comes next. I'm hoping there will be a second run on 750's that fix the halo effect. There is absolutely no way your tv is different, you just haven't noticed it yet.

I just picked this unit up today.. Hooked up everything and I was BLOWN away by the picture quality.. I am going from a 50" plasma and this TV absolutely crushes a plasma. I have a PS3 and a super blu hooked up on HDMI as well as SD cable and a Wii. I definitely will not be going back. I also have a conosuire line of energy speakers and HK amp. The only draw back is the Reflection from the clear lexan surround. I dunno if anyone else has noticed this. I am going to experiment with ways of reducing or covering this up.

Also, I played GTA 4 on my Plasma today just before returning it and now that I played it on the 750, I can honestly say that the 750 is simply much better. Everything is smoother and more colored. Wow I can't stop talking about it. I will get some pictures up tomorrow. Oh and I have the 46" size.

If this so called halo effect really bothers you, you could always get the 650 instead. It has the same exact amazing PQ. They are identical tv's apart from the bezels and a few useless (to me anyways) little features.
Dont get me wrong tho i'm not bashing the 750 at all, just saying that if you dont want that halo effect and are willing to part with the DNLA, Wiselink pro, and the subs, then the 650 is the way to go.

P.S. GTA4 does look amazing on these sets (650 and 750) huh.

I tried to buy an A750 today but the set I was looking over at BB turned out to be a 650. I was quite disappointed, but now I am considering getting the 650. The price difference would be about $700, so I am trying to figure out what the 750 does that the 650 does not. It seems that both have network (although the 750 has wifi - not important to me) and also both have Infolink. It seems both have Wiselink, but only the A750 has Wiselink that works over an enet connection and not just USB.

What I can not figure out is if the 650 can also play video over Wiselink pro, or just still photos and music. A comparison of the manuals was not clear. I do think the 750 is DLNA certified but the 650 is not.

Oh, and the 750 has a sub woofer, but I use a home theater.

So, I guess I have to decide if the extra money is worth playing video from a DLNA server or not. It would be pretty cool, but I can always play video from my video player...

Decisions decisions. Any comments?

Does anyone miss the swivel stand? I sort of like that in some of the newer televisions. Also, what do people think of the response time for this TV. Sometimes I kind of get annoyed with the lag I see with LCDs with first person shooters ,etc. The 71 series has an 8ms response time versus 4ms for this panel??? Also, are there any problems with stutter using AMP on any setting???

I currently own a 71 series which I may end up pushing Samsung to replace and like the look of this television. Thanks.
