As Zenith/LG has stated as part of the specs. that the DTT901 has analog pass through then ordering DTT901 gets it whether stated by the seller or not. Many sellers do not give complete specs. & sometimes seller specs. may be inaccurate- not an issue if one knows the actual specs.

I didn't see anything about the DTT901 on the Zenith site. Specs change, after all, Zenith dropped the Smart Antenna last Dec.

Do you have a recent link confirming DTT901 specs?

I agree, there can be errors on the seller's part (for example, it says the box contains a DTT900), and lists the product they are selling as DTT900/DTT901. Omission of key features is common. But after the NTIA warning announcement about Microprose pass through, I'm skittish about specs, and DTT901 is not on the CECB approved list yet, with or without the "*".

Their description has not been updated- one should make sure he is ordering DTT901 if wanting it. Evidently they are out of 900s & waiting on 901s.

But SirVette, those 2 links say nothing about pass through -- I haven't seen anything official that says this model has pass through. I took a peek at the FCC approval of the DTT901 (dated March 12), but I don't remember it saying pass through, unless that's obvious from the tuner number, in which case I'm missing what's obvious to others and will be appropriately red-faced. :-)

See "Analog passthrough" column of first link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_CECB_units "Yes" on DTT901

Now that is exciting news, tvropro!

Thanks SirVette, my wiki wasn't refreshing. Wiki, however, is as much rumor as anything else, and changes back and forth many times a day when they have their little info turf wars. Wiki also listed MaxMedia as having pass through -- though it was not CECB approved for pass through. And Wiki still shows Microprose MPI-500 as having PT, although we know it's the MPI-500PT, not yet CECB approved, that has the pass through.

Interesting how the page shows four customer reviews for a unit that isn't yet available.

Imagine how few coupons would have been ordered to date, had the CECB approved list noted which boxes were actually on the shelf.

One retailer responded to my e-mail inqury about the Zenith. I will paraphrase the response:

Some retailers were caught off guard by the very strong customer demand for CECBs. The first order of the DTT900 sold out in the first week--in some locations on the first day of sale. The Zenith is selling well in metropolitan and rural areas. A second order, even a portion of it, may arrive sometime soon. Some of the immediate demand might be from customers with coupons soon to expire.

The DTT901 with pass-through is due at Zenith's warehouse by mid June with boxes beginning to appear in retail stores a week or two later.

Thanks for passing the info along. It's that week or two that keeps me on edge. I bit the bullet on shipping and ordered a DTVPal, since there's no assurances the Zenith is going to be available in time. I'd feel better about it if it were on the approved list.

"Mid June"? My coupons (as well as the rest of my extended family's which I ordered at the same time) all expire on 6/18. I hope someone will take orders for these before mine expire! I wonder if CC would take exchanges under their "no questions asked" return policy if I bought 900 boxes with my coupons and took them back a couple weeks later to swap for 901's?

Arrival may depend on the speed (or lack thereof ) of a slow boat.

I spoke to a young woman at CC & she said she had not seen any DTT900s returned. They had many of them & were selling a lot. Picked up a DTT900 sn near 380k. These are slick- will post in the DTT900 topic.

According to an e-mail response from a retailer in Oregon the DTT901 with pass-through is due at Zenith's warehouse by mid June with boxes beginning to appear in retail stores a week or two later.

The BIG question is: Will the DTT901 appear soon on the NTIA CECB listing so these may be purchased with coupons?

And the even bigger question: will the DTT901 have the left-channel audio problem fixed like, apparently, the April-production DTT900s did/do?

I have two coupons burning a hole in my pocket, and the only thing stopping me from getting two more Zenith units is the snap-crackle-pop-sizzle in the left channel on DD5.1 programming on the '900 I bought back in March. Bummer, 'cuz I like everything else about the unit.....

My coupons expired this week, and though I wanted the 901, I couldn’t wait any longer for it.

I had the same question.

The Circuit City key word seems to be “exchange”.

I asked three employees at my local Circuit City (San Francisco). Two of them said “Yes”, and one said “Probably Not”. However, one of the “Yes” responses came from the woman at the Customer Service window, who seemed to be in a position of relative authority/decision.

“Can I exchange this Zenith converter box for a different Zenith converter box later this month?”

“Yes. Within 30 days.”

“Will I get the full purchase price as credit?”

“Yes.”

“So the exchange will include the value of the coupon?”

“Yes.”

So I bought two 900 boxes. The stock was all April 2008 builds; mine are S/N 804SHCN286xxx.

Now, I haven’t actually accomplished the exchange, obviously (since the 901 hasn’t appeared). So, the proof will be in my actually doing it, but the prospect of making an exchange for a 901, including the value of a burned coupon, seems to be feasible.

However, one of the floor-salesmen (sincerely, a helpful guy) pointed out that no one there at the store knew exactly when the 901 would be arriving, and that if Circuit City had a “boatload” of 900’s in stock (the Van Ness store had 200 units), that new stock/newer models might not make it to the sales-floor immediately.

*

Thank you to everyone who contributed in this thread and the 900 thread. This site has been a great resource. Thank you.

I just checked the NTIA CECB page (at 6:42 p.m. PDT 6/4/2008). The Zenith DTT901 is now listed. There is no asterisk to indicate "analog pass through."

good eyes, DigaDo. I missed it, since it was not alphabetized. No Insignia -APT model there yet, though the FCC processed them the same day.

I also noticed the the NTIA had no asterisk to indicate "analog pass through"
Now the Zenith DTT901 has the same problem as the MicroProse.

I was also thinking that all three LG PassThru models would have been added to the NTIA list at the same time. Those boxes being the Zenith, Insignia, and MicroProse.

To me this is good news for Insignia and MicroProse because if the Zenith got approved then it shouldn't be that difficult for the other two as they all share the same parts and just have changes in the LG firmware.

DS pass through available

Sorry for the off-topic. As the Zenith and DS are similar, I wanted to be sure those of you with approaching exp. dates know that as of yesterday, RS is selling the Digital Stream DTX9950 (similar to 9900 but with pass through). There are separate forums here on DTX9900 and DTX9950. If not in stock at store, you can have them order it and ship to home/store at no additional cost. Audio bug status not known yet.

NTIA CECB page for DTT901

This is my first post, so please let me know if I am not doing it correctly. DigaDo posted yesterday at 8:47pm that the NTIA CECB page was now listing the Zenith DTT901. I was just on their site and didn't see it listed. Would you please give me the URL for the page listing the DTT901? Thanks.

Thanks for the timely info, tomwil. I was having trouble with a retailer who didn't know that the DTT901 was now listed.
