Sony HT-7200DH
Hi All,
I don't think I've seen a specific review for the Sony HT-7200DH. I searched Amazon.com hoping for a thorough review, and though Amazon.com was selling the unit, it had 0 user reviews. Does anyone have experience with the Sony HT-7200DH? I have a PS3, Sony Bravia 1080p HDTV -- that's it. I'd like to have audio through HDMI. Thank you in advance. |

i searched the net endlessly a month before the launch of this system for previews and a whole 'notha month afterwards for customer and editorial reviews to no avail! i suppose you could say i took a chance by doing so, but i decided to go with it and purchase this system.
I just got it on Monday, June 09/08 - so far, so good. i wish i could give you a review, but this is my very first home theater system, so i wouldn't be able to compare it to any others. but i guess if yoou have specific questions about it, maybe i could provide you with some answers? |

![]() Can you confirm that it supports HDMI audio and that it's not just a passthrough? Much thanks. Last edited by lawyerwatanabe; 06-12-08 at 11:03 AM.. |

For starters, no, i didn't purchase this system at any store. I bought it online, on e-bay actually. Brand new, and $100 less than the retail price! That's probably why I went for it. But anyway... I did not buy stands for the speakers yet. I may look into that in the future, but at the moment I am comfortable with my current set-up.

I'm really not sure how to write up a worthy review. As I mentioned before, this is my first ever home theater system, so I have nothing I can compare it to. But I love that it has three HDMI inputs... the subwoofer is really loud/strong (but of course, that's adjustable). The only thing I don't like is that there appears to be no on-screen menu, so to make any adjustments you have to use the display on the receiver to see what you're doing. (I don't know if most systems are lik that though). The speakers are small, but I like that. Plus, they really pack in a good punch. The volume goes all the way up to 70. and uhm yyeeaahh. ![]() |

Can you let us know how long the speaker wires are? I plan on running it up the wall to the ceiling for the rear speakers. I'm a bit worried about having to splice the wires. |

hmm... I don't remember exactly how long they are, but i doubt if they're long enough for you to be able to do that. But don't worry about having to splice any wires... they don't come attached to the speakers themselves. So, if you find they're not long enough, you can always purchase some to your likings.

The HT-7200DH looks good to me as a simple way to get high quality surround sound from my new PS3 (90% for Blu-Ray 10% games) Picture looks GREAT on my 42" Vizio 1080p, but painfully lacking for audio. The Panasonic HTIB I have now only allows for one external stereo input. What I DO like about the Panny is the size of it's subwoofer. It fits perfect in my very limited space. I'm anxious to ditch the Panny, but want to keep the speaker ... which is only a bass speaker and enclosure ... no amp in it.
Questions are, "Is the HT-7200DH subwoofer amplified in it's enclosure?" The photo I've seen of the back panel shows a RCA jack for connection to the subwoofer which makes me think it is. Can someone who owns a HT-7200DH tell me if there is a power ... AC cord or "wall wart" power supply cord connection on the subwoofer box?" The Weights and Measurements specs I find on the "Sony Style" website only provide length of TWO cords under the subwoofer speaker specs. I'd also sure like to know the actual dimensions of the subwoofer box if someone would please take the time to measure it for me. My effort over the past week to learn about state of the art audio has left me overwhelmed. Lots of info out there, but much goes way over my head. At this point I just want to plug it all together and eye drool over picture quality and go gahgah from surround sound! Future plan is to upgrade to a HD-DVR from DirecTV or maybe change to Dish ... sheeesh yet another high tech topic to try to learn about. I expect the DVR will have HDMI output to occupy the third input on the receiver and I assume the HD-7200DH will properly handle both the Dvr picture and audio. Anyone have experience to share on this? |

Go here (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...HT7200DH&LOC=3) and download the manual. The answers to your subwoofer questions are on page 86.

HT-7200DH feedback
Have had my Sony HT-7200DH almost a year. It's audio inputs are connected via HDMI to the included upscaling DVD player and a PS3. Optical audio comes from the Vizio TV and a old DirecTV surround sound capable box. Overall it's doing the job, but now having with experience with it I wouldn't buy it again.
Here's a few reasons that pop up for me. Oh, first let me say that after finishing shopping for a system I was glad to let go trying to understand all this new technology. End goal was good sound with EASE OF USE. First gripe is about the amp's remote control. I have to press the power button multiple times many occasions to get it to turn on or off. The variations of sound effects I get from the various menu options are not significant enough for me to go back and deal with the clunky menu system to change them. Suppose you could say I just haven't got it solidly figured out or that I'm lazy. You'd be right. I'm a old guy with weak ears that have a difficult time pulling clear voice out of the background music or sounds. I wish it was easier to work with sound control options that would help my ear problems. Blu-ray movies from the Playstation 3 look AWESOME on my Vizio 42" 1080p screen. The Sony HT-7200DH locks in on the audio coming in on the HDMI cable and I have no options to change sound effects in the amp. When the movie soundtrack is good the surround sound can be AWESOME! Sometimes when I have trouble hearing the dia loge I'd like to try to change tones levels, but like I said it's lock-in to the HD audio does not allow for adjustments. I dunno maybe I've got the wrong digital signal type set for the amp or PS3. I'm to lazy to try to figure it out so I live with it. It's not too painful though as I wouldn't go back to my old setup. Though when I compare the old JVC surround amp with the Sony there is a night/day difference in physical quality. The JVC has a quality build with all the connectors on the back being very solid while the Sony connectors are light and the whole "feel" of it is cheap and not worthy of it's $500 (about what I paid) price. My video room is small and during warm weather the heat generated from all my electronics add-up. I have a temp probe in the air flow coming from my computer's graphic board. It goes over 110. I don't monitor the Sony amp temp, but do notice how warm the cabinet drawer above the amp gets. It's then I think I appreciate the lower wattage on the label of the Sony when I recall the power specs of the other amps I considered at the time I was shopping. Of course if I did have a 450 watt amp then maybe I wouldn't need a toaster! |
