Lightbulb Official AVS National HD Channel Lineups - Cable/DBS/Fiber/IPTV - Updated 01/10/10!

The above chart details national carriage agreements with the top television service providers in the United States for all presently available or announced non-exclusive HD channels. Providers listed include the two major DBS carriers, the top ten cable MSOs, and Verizon and AT&T's fiber services, which are being built to compete on a national basis (albeit only in select markets at this time). Other providers have been excluded because their footprint is simply too small. The eleventh largest cable MSO, for instance, serves only half as many cable subscribers as the smallest provider on our chart.

This chart has also begun tracking of subscription sports packages with HD coverage. All cable providers marked above and Verizon FiOS offer their sports packages through InDemand's two HD channels, Team HD and Game HD. As such, they offer a limited amount (one or two games) of HD coverage on any given night with their package. DirecTV has made independent agreements that allow it to broadcast significantly more HD coverage to its subscribers.

This chart does not track carriage of RSNs. For a detailed breakdown of RSN availability, you should visit the Official AVS HDTV Programming Synopsis.

A tip of the hat to all the AVS members who have contributed to the spreadsheet over the years, and a special thanks to CycloneGT, nataraj, and sansri88 for their prior work updating and compiling the spreadsheet.

Refresh to ensure you're viewing the most recent version, dated 01/10/2010. Any additions, suggestions, and corrections are welcome.

An Excel 2007 version is attached. Users of older versions of Excel can download the free Office Compatibility Pack to edit in Excel 2000, XP, or 2003.

The latest update is complete.

The following announced channels have been purged from the chart: Africa Channel, Black Broadcasting Network, Black Television News Channel, Chiller, SiTV, and Sleuth. All announcements for carriage of new channels made by providers prior to 2009 that had not yet materialized have also been removed. As a general rule of thumb, the only announcements, either of new channels or carriage agreements, now include those announced or updated during 2009. Everything that was removed had been an announcement idle for roughly one year.

The chart has begun tracking major sports subscription packages that are available in HD. These are not included in the channel count breakdown at the top of the chart. Because this is a new section on the chart, I am of course very open to suggestions on how to improve it. It's also possible that some of the information is incomplete, so please update us if that's true.

Finally, as always, please update us as channels go from limited availability to wide availability on the cable operators. Since cable operators roll out channels on a market-by-market basis, my default selection is "limited availability" unless a press release or someone here indicates otherwise.

I accidentally glossed right over the fact that FSC HD is live on some Charter systems and GMC HD is limited for TWC. Those will be in next month's update.

Great Job as always Matt!!! Just one suggestion. You left off the REDZONE football package. Obviously it is over for this year, but none the less is still a sports package.

DirecTV Red Zone is not a package, it's part of NFL Sunday Ticket.

NFL RedZone is a channel, which is listed.

Might as well say Dish only has 85 since Centric and Logo show zilch for HD content. Also BET has like 2% HD per month?

You're missing 3 of the channels that u-verse has. I know these are newer, but wanted to give a heads up.

1163 - Crime & Investigation HD
1272 - Biography HD
1274 - History International HD

wiltshp,

They must have been added yesterday or today as neither is listed on U-Verse's site at the moment.

Orlando, you are correct they are still pretty new. You can read about them here. I'm sure by your next update they will be official on the ATT Website.

I read that press release, and I got a little confused. Does that mean there are now two Fox Soccer HD channels (FSC-HD and FSP-HD)? I couldn't tell if Fox Soccer Plus was in addition to FSC-HD or in leiu of it.

There seemed to be some confusion as to whether FSC-HD actually launched the first of this year as promised.

I was confused at first as well. I had to re-read it. the key line was "A Companion To FSC"

TV Land will probably have next to no HD programming.

Remember that Oxygen HD, Sleuth HD and Chiller HD have also been announced in the past and not materalized so it might not happen.

It is good to see almost all of the channels in or at least publicly planning to get in HD.

wiltshp,

I have all three with my Bright House Cable.

If I ever had to move out of Bright House territory and into Comcast's, I would strongly consider U-Verse as an option and those channels would help make my decision easier although not having MLB Network and NBA TV would be a bummer.

The Sportsman channel definitely needed to do this fast.

Outdoor shows are amongst the things that look the best in HD and without HD, they were no match for Versus and Outdoor channel because why watch their programming when you can get outdoor HD programming on another network.

Bright House Birmingham added 8 new HD channels. The channels are the Viacom HD Suite and Gospel Music Channel HD

http://birmingham.brighthouse.com/pr...s/default.aspx

Please change Gospel Music Channel HD to Limited for Bright House.

BTW: If one more affiliate picks up Spike, Comedy Central and Nick, it will become wide for BHN. That's pretty fast given TWC just made the deal for them to piggyback on.

For Mediacom, Bravo should be orange (limited), as we don't have it in HD in eastern Iowa.
We also don't have CNBC HD+.
