Integra DTR-9.9 or 8.9?

I'm trying to choose between the 8.9 and the 9.9.

Tybal, as you are new to AVS forum, let me explain that starters of official product threads here assume reponsiblity for updating their first post with product info, bugs, firmware updates etc. Starters of such threads are either product owners or folks with enough previous knowlege/experience of similar products to know what to do.

If you would rename this thread to "Integra DTR-8.9 or 9.9?" it would be appreciated.

In answer to your question, if you go to the Integra manual download page:
http://www.integrahometheater.com/ow...m?cat=Receiver
and select either the DTR-8.9 or DTR-9.9 (it's the same manual),
the feature differences are listed on page 6, and the power output differences are on pages 159 and 160.

If you are not going to input music into either a USB or Ethernet port, and do not have low impedance speakers you want to play loud, I'd save money and get the 8.9

You should also consider the similar Onkyo 876 and 906 for even less money -- see their threads here.
Edit: here's a list of most of the differences between the Onkyo and Integra models:

Integra DTR-x.9 vs Onkyo TX-NRx.9

3yr warranty vs 2 yr.
15 band manual EQ vs 7 band
three 12 V triggers vs one 12v trigger that only triggers when zone 2 is turned on (in other words you can't use the 12V trigger if you are running a 7.1 setup)
Ethernet port: 8.9: setup/control only, no music; 876: no port. Both 9.9 and 906 have full featured ports
Subwoofer preout for both zones 2 and 3 vs sub out for main zone only
Composite and Component video out for zone 2 vs composite video only for zone 2

Has any one bought the DTR 9.9 yet? What are your experiences so far? I'm considering one. Possibly the Onkyo 906 too. Didn't know it was cheaper. Assumed they were priced "similarly".

My other choices are the new Arcam AVR600 and the Pioneer Elite xx07 (one model below their flagship xx09 8k receiver...crazy $...at that rate I would go for the Denon 5308 at $2k less but I digress...).

I just got one a couple days ago. It's replacing an 8.8

Still playing around with it. Seems to be a little more dynamic than the 8.8.

Heavy unit. Nicely finished. Very clean and solid.

Plenty of power.

Haven't messed around with the ISF settings for each input yet.

For related gear, I have:

Epson Pro 1080UB

Sci. Atl. HD DVR

Xbox 360 Elite

Integra HD-DVD Player

Panasonic DMP-BD55

If anyone has any questions or would like me to check anything out, let me know.

I just ordered one today.

It looks like the 9.9 is very close in spec and features to the Onkyo TX-NR906 which can be had for $3-400 or so less than the Integra. Presumably most of the comments on the 906 thread are probably relevant here.

Also the Integra DHC 9.9, which also has a well populated thread here, is the unamplified version of the DTR 9.9, so those comments and feedback are probably relevant as well. I'm not sure why the DTR doesn't seem to have the wide following of the DHC.

I'm upgrading from an Integra 7.2 that I've had for years and have been very, very happy with. That background, plus a few features and the extra year of warranty coverage helped me to chose the Integra over the Onkyo.

I'll post remarks once I have the unit up and running.

Ha, we should rename this thread "The OFFICIAL why doesn't anyone give a **** about the DTR 9.9 when its so kickass" thread.

Finally got my tweaking done, and I'll tell you this is a formidable piece of gear. You won't be disapointed.

Yeah, it's interesting how this gem seems to attract little notice.

Maybe it's because the price tag puts it in the range where buyers are more likely to be chasing separates? That's my assumption - the pre/pro version of this seems to be attracting lots of attention.

For me, I considered separates but don't really see the need for what is primarily an HT system.

Trying to setup 8 ohm speakers but speaker setup display shows 4 and 6 ohm only. This does not look right to me. Has anyone else run into this?

Maybe you should post this in the Onkyo 906 thread:

Just an operator error- Did not read the maual sufficiently well. The prompt for 4 ohm or 6ohm speakers is for 6ohm and over, so I eventually chose the correct option. Thanks

Curious. Has any DTR 9.9 owners had any problems reading DTS HD MA or Dolby TrueHD tracks? I read in an Onkyo 906 thread on another forum that some of them could not get their 906 to display those new BD surround formats on their avr's.

Also, has any one compared the 906 and 9.9? Do they sound exactly the same? Does it just come down to a few extra features in inputs as listed above? And why did you opt for the 9.9 over the Onkyo 906?

Problems using the Audessy Mult-EQ

Using DTR9.9 Audessy function to configure speakers. Having trouble with picking up rear right channels. Could also have the problem on the rear left side, but I never get that far. I place the microphone on a tripod and try the process from multiple posiitons, but so far no luck with right rear. All the speaker beeping is driving me nuts. I have already checked polarity and also get no messages other than "speaker error" and it highlights the speaker it could not pickup. So far it's the right rear channel. When I run a test signal sequence to the speakers, they all sound fine as does regular audio playback from CD, DVD, etc. It's just that the Audessy feature does not seem to pick up the speaker properly. I think I need this to function to complete properly so that the RE-EQ function also works properly.

Any suggestions on how to get the Audessy microphone to pick up the speakers properly? Thanks for any guidance.

What is your speaker setup ?
If it's 5.1 your rear speakers have to be connected to surround not surround back.
Surround back is only active if surround is in use already.

Thanks Gurkey. That was right onb target. Changed the config and Audyssey worked just fine although I was suprized at how long the calculation step took. Must not be a very fast CPU by today's standards or the calculations are incredibly complex. Thanks for the assistance.

USB Input for IPOD Nano

I have a new IPOD nano. When I plug it into the USB port on the front of my DTR 9.9, the orgainzation of the folders that the reciever shows does not make sense to me. I am expecting album names or at least a list of all songs. Instead what I see is a series of folder names F00 thru F13 with no rhyme or reason to the how the song titles are organized within those folders. In addition, I don't see all of the song titles that are loaded on the IPOD. Has anyone else had this experience or can you explain why this is happening and any possible workarounds so that I can access the music in a consistent and logical way?

New Receiver??

I hesitate to get the new Onkyo 906 as Onkyo requires you to update firmware by sending the unit back to Onkyo (unless your willing to risk loosing everything by using the "Unofficial" download firmware site-wherever that is).

How does the DTR 9.9 receive updated firmware downloads?

Thanks-

It is the same as Onkyo as far as firmware upgrades are concerned.

I've had mine since late Dec. Driving PSB Synch One's but that's it at the molment. Very capable receiver - drives 4ohm speakers effortlessly and has all of the features and some that I could want. I chose the 9.9 mainly for streaming capability, USB port, and versatility as I add components. Of course the power is great too.

Hey GPowered,

You don't say. A PSB Synchrony One main. I don't suppose you could go buy the "One" center and bookshelf speaker too so you can tell me how they sound in a HT setup? I'm considering the same setup.

The 9.9 is "4 ohms certified" (listed in their "features" list) so I'm not surprised. That and I was told that any THX Ultra2 is spec'd to support 4 ohms speakers. True or not I'd prefer to see a company tell us their products can (e.g. DTR 9.9).

Haven't had a chance to demo the Synchrony's yet. Recall PSB's being a little "reserved" when playing movies. But great for music. Wonder if that still holds true or if they are better with movies now. While I appreciate a speaker that is great with music I do watch more movies than I listen to music.

Which is why the new Paradigm Reference Studio v.5 are also on my demo list. They have always been more forward in comparison.

I have a technical question about the DTR 9.9. I have the discrete IR Codes from integra and it says that there are ON and OFF commands for the 12volt triggers. It say's that they work with the 9.9 but i cant get them to do anything. I want to be able to turn my sub amps off (not remote controllable) by turning off the trigger that activates them. Does anyone have some suggestions or maybe the correct on off trigger codes, The sub is on trigger C.
Thanks

I did my updates via. ethernet connected to my computer. Very simple, efficient and quick! This Receiver is incredible, the sound and Reon-scaler are excellent!

It all depends on the High Def. player you are using. Some players are not capable of decoding those codecs properly and default to multi-channel. I am using Panasonics DMP-BD35K Blu-Ray unit, and it properly decodes as well as displays the sound formats as advertised on the case of the disc. However when I play DD-True HD content using my Toshibas HD-DVD player it displays "Multi-Chan" when using an HDMI cable connection. If I use an optical cable to bitstream the content from the HD-DVD player, it then shows DD-True HD.

It is a bit confusing as to how all this comes together and being player specific etc. When it's all said and done, Integra's customer support is quite good, and they can walk you through different scenarios as well as suggest players out there that decode properly with the 9.9...

Fellow DTR9.9 owners...finally took one home since my 6 yr old Sony strde915 finally died...
here's my problem..all i wanted to do was to hook up my HD cable box and Samsung BD player to my JVC 750 projector. All i've done is assigned HDMI 1 to the cable box, and HDMI 2 to the BD. Cable box comes thru fine audio & video-though it does take about 10 secs to gain both a&v when switching from lets say, FM to Cable (eventho the cable box is always on).
Then i switch to the Samsung 1600 BD on HDMI 2. The first time i got audio and video for about 30 secs...then the video disappeared to a blank screen, but the audio cont'd for another 30 secs before it too went out and then i got the 'no signal' display. Tried another HDMI cable-no change. Tried HDMI 1 (the one the cable box was hooked into without a prob) and i got no audio and no video and 'no signal'. Then i tried my older Sammy 1400. The same scenario repeated.
Onkyo tech support could not help other than saying it was a 'handshake' issue and made me go thru and make sure all HDMI's were assigned correctly.
Suggestions?
thanks in advance.

How to set speaker to SMALL

You'll need to change those to a different xover freqency - I put my fronts to 50, center to 80 and rears to 100...then your sub kicks in nicely...in other words on the Integra there is no "small" preset, you need to customize them
Just got the unit today (DTR 9.9), I went thru all the setting, but can't find the setting
to flip the speaker size to SMALL...any ideas?
Thanks a bunch.

What remote are you using? I have the same master IR code list from integra and but the codes they give are what they call "short HEX" instead of the super long HEX codes most are familliar with. I have a URC MX-900 and I dont think they will work with any of the universal remotes? hve you had any success?
