I have spoke to the head designer about this issue, they are working on a revised CMS setting.

he has offered to fly in from Japan to meet with some UK members to discuss the CMS in person i was thinking we could use this as a chance to have another shoot out / event, anyone fancy it?

Great news!

Please be sure to let him know how much we appreciate it and how well this speaks to the quality of JVC's customer service.

Manni has been very involved in extensive CMS measurements, testing and experiments and is well positioned to describe the issues and evaluate any fixes. Hope he can attend and I think we are well on our way now.

I will be happy to do so if I am invited, and hope JeffY will be too. He's much more experienced than I am...

This is great news. I hope the CMS can be fixed via a firmware upgrade and it is not a hardware issue.

Elliot, this is great news, please keep us posted. If you could please ask why the NR feature is turned off with HD material it just doesn't make any sense. If one would prefer to use it with any material why are we restricted? After all, they're our units & we paid for them.

Oh yes, of course! I forgot Jeff was on the other side of the pond. Certainly Jeff would be a great asset and hope he can attend.

BTW Bulldogger yes it is software based.

This is one of the issues listed in the first post of this thread. I suspect that JVC is aware of our input and I am really glad that they are taking it to heart.

Any improvements over a fixed CMS are just gravy in my opinion.

There is some really great information about the limitations of the CMS at this site: http://www.cir-engineering.com/rs20.php

The comments about the non linearity of the brightness and hue controls are quite specific and outline the problems well. For those in contact with JVC about fixing the firmware, please refer them to this information.

Jeff

If you could please ask about a firmware update to enable the NR functions with HD sources.

Thanks,

John

My post came out wrong and is misleading when I just reread it.

It's on our list, at least, and that list has been forwarded to JVC. I can't say what JVC plans to do so I wouldn't get too excited.

Seems like that would be a quick and easy fix (more so than the broken CMS). But I do realize the CMS is much more important - so I wouldn't count on the NR feature being implemented any time soon. If not - my next BD player will be a Panny which has a nice NR feature built in (vs. my Sony's worthless NR mode).

John

I hope your wrong since it is just an absolute waste of the Reon's potential, but given JVC's previous track record, these improvements will likely only show up in the next generation of projectors.

Sorry it's a bit OT, but John don't expect a miracle off the Panny. I would really advise you try the Panny before replacing your Sony... An external VP (or an HTPC) may allow to reach a better result in this area.

Algolith HDMI Flea solutiom to noise!

Just got my Algolith HDMI Flea today and wanted to share this with you...

Almost ALL the noise/grain with my RS20 is now eliminated. This little thing works & it works wonders. Words can't describe what I'm seeing, silky smooth picture with multiple choices of noise reduction adustable to your liking ie: 3D Temporal Filtering, 2D Spatial Filter, Block Artifact Reducer, MNR/DNR, Detail Enhancer, Dynamic Range Stretcher and all with split image so you can see the improvements & fine tune it. Algolith is amazing & they have noise reduction down to a science, they are second to none, and that's all this little bugger does is remove noise.

The only problems I see is that it is now discontinued and it may be pricey for some. It was $999 when in mass production but ever since the announcement last year that they would discontinue it they are selling them off for $597 which includes a remote that was sold seperately for $80. They only have 19 left I bought the 20th so if you want one call Michel & tell him Chris from DVD Mansion in Toronto told you about it he will match the price the number is 514.335.9867 or toll free at 1-877-ALGOLITH and I hope I'm not braking any forum rules by doing this but I think i's safe since it's discontinued.

Another thing is that it works with 1080P/24 but not 1080P/60 also works with 1080i/60

Here is a review on it by Phil Hinton

http://www.avforums.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=2

Also an in-depth review by DVD Times it's a great read

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=64146

Hope that helps & good luck.

Interesting. Was checking my notes and so far only 3 films I own are in dire need of NR (all are BD's of 1950's Harryhausen films). Although there are a few others that would benefit from some mild NR as well. So not sure if it would be worth the expense (and trouble) to me. I also don't think I would want to leave this hooked up all the time. So I would have to hook it up (and unhook it) on a case by case basis. Also - I find that when I have something like this - I end up adjusting and messing w/ it continually - vs just watching the movie.

Chris,

What equipment do you have hooked up to the Flea? Apparently it will not work with some newer DVD/BD players or AV receivers.

Thanks

Although the recent discussion is certainly relevant, please let's move it over to the RS20 owners thread. This thread should be kept strictly focused on the firmware (new firmware-based feature requests, status of firmware updates etc). Thank you everyone for your cooperation.

Well I recently decided that with my home theater reno costs driving ever upward I can't afford a Lumagen Radiance, at least for quite a while after buying my RS20.

Is there any actual, realistic hope that the CMS can (or might be) fixed via a firmware upgrade? (Obviously everyone wants that; I just don't have experience with these things to predict how likely it is).

Thanks.
