Angry List of Blu-ray movies authored in 1080i50

I'll try to keep this list current. If you know of any Blu-ray movies authored in 1080i50 (25 FPS), please post with name of the title, region, country, studio, and UPC (if known).

Thanks,

It seems that any Blu-ray movie released by EIV or Noble/SME/Future Films is encoded at 25 FPS

I'll try to maintain a list of US Blu-ray players that are confirmed to be compatible or NOT compatible with 1080i50 Blu-rays. If you know of any players that fall into these categories, please post your findings. Please remember to make sure that your TV or display is also 1080i50 compatible before deciding that your player is incompatible.

Thanks,

US Blu-ray players that can play 1080i50 contents (provided that the TV/display is also 1080i50 compatible)

LG BH-200
Oppo BDP-83
Pioneer BD-51 in Source Direct mode
Samsung BDP-1400
Samsung BDP-1500

US Blu-ray players that CANNOT play 1080i50 contents (provided that the TV/display is also 1080i50 compatible)

Panasonic BD55
Sony BDP-S350
Sony PS3

Not all of them most are straight ports of the new line discs

add the UK version of BrokeBack Mountain: 1080i50

Studio: Focus features, Region B (uk) : UPC: 5017239 120046

MPEG2 encode. Still it looks quite good transfer wise

Some more Swedish releases from Noble:

À l'intérieur (Inside)
An American Crime
Eichmann
Frontière(s)
The Life Before Her Eyes
Mad Money
Ne le dis à personne (Tell No One)
[Rec]
Rise of the Footsoldier

I don't know how many of these were also released by Star Media/Futurefilm. All are marked as region free (kind of ridiculous since Region A machines will probably not play them anyway.)

There are some releases tagged 1080i50 in the specs thread, but note that several are concerts and things (like Extras: The Special) that were likely shot that way. Perhaps these could go on a different list.

And Brokeback is another release by EiV, Focus Features is the film studio.

25p is not supported by BD spec. If you have 25p master you have to encode it as 50i.

Cant you just encode it as 25P with interlace flags as you can with DVD.

Usually its a difference between encoding and authoring in this regard.

I believe there are many concert discs like this which basically prevent Americans from importing them. This Oasis concert and documentary from the U.K. can be added to the list:

I know many video based programs from Europe are 1080i50, so I am trying to limit this list to films.

Remember that with 25fps films, both fields contain the same data. So, for film content, there is no difference between 25p and 50i. Provided the player is smart enough to recognise both fields are the same and doesn't try to deinterlace, that is!

Regardless, it's disappointing to hear of these titles.

From Scanbox (Sweden/Denmark/Norway/Finland):

Bridge to Terabithia
Death at a Funeral

From SF (Sweden):

Angel

Also I made mistake, and Ne le dis à personne (Tell No One) is actually 24p so better remove that. In fact it seems like Noble may be on the right track, as one of their latest releases, Red Baron, is also marked as 24p.

Thank you.

That's right, I am only interested in tracking 1080i50 for now. 1080i60 can theoretically be reconstructed back into 1080p24 with proper deinterlacing whereas 1080i50 really messes things up (audio pitch being the biggest gripe of mine).

Im not sure, but i think there is a big chance that Angel was shoot 25fps, and thats the reason why they didnt encode it as 1080/24P. Other movies from SF have been 24P.

But of course it doesnt help, if you cant play it.

Possible, but it was produced for theatrical release, wasn't it? Why would they shoot 25fps?

Also I guess it's a question of what is the 'correct' speed. I think 28 Days Later was mostly shot in PAL and slowed down to 24fps, so if that had been released as 1080i50 would it have gone on the list?

I'm not sure, but Girls Aloud: Live from the O2 might be. I know it is 1080i, it was released in the UK, and it is a concert and concerts are supposedly notorious for this.

Could warrant some investigating.
