Philips new blu-ray player BDP5010

I noticed that Costco has it on their website for sale. This player is a 2.0 player. Has anyone tried or test this machine by chance?http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...S&Sp=C&topnav=

I just posted about the player in the Funai thread yesterday, since Funai OEM's these for Philips. I'd love to know how it works too.

Kind of confusing....according to CNET & engadget, it will be a true Philips product as opposed to Funai. It's not clear if the 5010 will decode the newer lossless codecs. But it appears that the higher 7310 might.

Well PC World got their hands on a 5010 and it's a pretty average budget player it seems. Seems like it has OK loading times (77 seconds) for an inexpensive Profile 2.0 model (though they failed to tell what Blu-ray title they clocked it with).

Their dvd players were easy to make region free from the remote. Is this the case for their blu ray player, at least for the sd dvd?

I've been wanting a DivX-capable BR player for some time now - and was leaning toward the BDP-7200 until this one was announced.

Anyone seen a manual for this unit? I wrote to Philips and they said "We will recieve the documentation for this model right before it is released for sale in the United States."

Well, Costco is selling the units now - but there's still no manual on the Philips web site...

Not only is there no manual, there isn't even a product page up for it yet. They still continue to only show the 7200

At least Philips has a "support" page. Although there's nothing available there except some Blu-Ray FAQs.

Anyone seen whether Costco is carrying these in the stores? The coupon book lists it as "online only" - but I keep hoping they'll show up in the stores so I can save the shipping.

Just found that the 5010 is at least now listed on their support page and the PDF of the user manual is up.

I should be going to Costco tomorow, I'll try and remember to scope out the BD players to see if they're in store yet.

Sam's Club call theres the 5012, but its the same as the 5010.

It looks pretty nice, and for $199, it seems like a great deal.

But something like this, is meant for the budget minded shopper, and since its brand new and has a price of $199, you know what that means, give a few months and it'll be $149, then you'll have a true budget player worth buying.

As of now, why spend 199, when there are new Sony and Panasonic players sitting right next to it for 225 and 227 respectively?

For me, the answer is simple: The Sony and Panasonic players don't do DivX.

Panasonic DMP-BD80K does DivX, but it is $400.

Multiregion anyone

I just got this player last week. It is definetely a Funai (tha back is identical to the NB530SLX except for the ethernet port)

Anyone with suggestions on how to convert this to multiregion (DVD) ? I dont mind the BluRay A zone

Thanks in advance

I just noticed Costco now has this player for $150. How would this be as a player compared to like a PS3 Slim? Most of my library is still SD DVDs so this would be doing a lot of upscaling. Any thoughts?

The PS3 will beat it easily. The 5010 is a pretty basic Blu-ray player.

I just happened to pick the 5012 up at Sams Monday for 72 dollars. Overall I find it as good if not better than the previous three I have taken back the last three weeks. I find it up converts very good, the loading time isn't to bad. The only real fault I can find is the fan noise, while watching a movie I can't hear it but when nothing is on I can hear it, not loud but I notice it. But for 72 dollars it is a keeper.

I got this for my birthday. Cool. I have a Philips TV also, and when you power up the player, the TV switches to the HDMI input for you. Cool
Anybody know if this will ever stream video from network servers? I sent the question into support, they replied to call them (? weird)

Remote not running philips hdtv

Anybody gettnig the remote to run a philips tv? My does not do it. Email from support says to use troubleshooting online/manual, which has almost nothing about the remote.
