In Joe six pack speak please.
Native 16 bit?
Native 24 bit?
Native SACD?

My questions may not be technically correct.
If I feed the DAC 24 bit 96 kHs or DSD will it be direct to analog?

dirtauger:

Neuromancer said that the back panel of the BDP-83 SE is identical to the stock 83, so no digital inputs are present, hence you won't be able to feed in a 24-bit/96Khz data stream.

Are the superior (of the two different) Sabre dacs to be used for the stereo analog outs? If so any way to do bass management for a subwoofer?

Now this is the player I am waiting for as I am looking for a player at a reasonable cost with excellent DAC's & analog section to use via 7.1 output.

The functionality of the player and fw will be identical.
The difference in sound will originate from the new hardware (chips) inside.
You should already know as well as anyone, that what you are asking is a matter of personal preference.
In other words, you will have to hear it for yourself.

Please, who is in contact with ESS or Oppo for this SE version ??
A question:
Why they point on DAC ES9006 and ES9016 when it's just out the more performer ES9018 ???
Could someone pass the question and learn if in the future can be available a ES9018 version of this player ??

Wouldn't you rather wait for the player that comes after that one?

Can't seem to find a data or product datasheet on the ES9016. Where did you get its info from?

Maybe it was a typo in the ad? A google search for "ES9016 DAC" brings up three hits, two of which are this thread.

Maybe the part is actually a specialized chip taylored for OPPO?
I know that ABT has done exactly that for OPPO in the past, so maybe ESS Tech has done the same.
I'm speculating though.

Yes, in the ad (1st thread page ) is specified the ES9016 when I know that ESS has ES9018 as their top DAC ....
Why don't use this last ??

Your assumption, based the absence of any real information, is that the ES9018 must be "better" than the ES9016 because of the higher number? Perhaps waiting for some actual information on what, if any, differences exist would be prudent?

Now there's a thought .

Most (all?) of us have no idea how long Oppo has been working on this or what is driving their decisions on which parts to use. Maybe the ES9018 is just beyond their budget. Or maybe the ES9018 wasn't available when they started and they were too far along to change their choice (even if they're pin compatible, there could certainly be other considerations). Who knows... Besides, isn't the end result just a bit more important than the individual parts that are used?

Yes I couldn't agree with you more. Why I asked the question and used very general terms is because of the nda. And all I was asking Neuromance, does the new chips perform as well for Blu Ray HD 7.1/5.1 stereo 2ch analog downmix as for music CD/SACD/DVD-A.

After all it seems like he is a bata tester for Oppo. And I am guessing Oppo values his opinions on the simple question I asked. Unless he doesn't have the equipment that is compatible for these kinds of tests to form a educated opinion.

Oh ok, I think I see what you are asking now.

Yes, Neuromancer does some testing for OPPO.
I'm sure he probably has an -83SE too...
Spoiler

If Oppo is trying to offer an audiophile alternative to the stock 83 (which aint to shaby to begin with) they should really offer more flexible BM as well.

Gotta love Oppo, at first their original BR player was supposed to cost more than the current price,( Then there was a big drop across on br player) I'm guess they are going to get $699, or what ever they where pricing for...

Well on that note they're getting my money!

The Sabre32 DAC chips are 8 channel DACs, and the SE will be using two of them, as noted above. One will be configured as 4 DACs per side for 2 channel analog use, the other will be used as it's normal 8 channel config for 7.1 analog use. Neither NuForce nor Oppo has stated whether the remainder of the analog signal path (i.e to me the most important part, i.e the opamps, capacitors, etc that lie between the DACs and the analog output jacks) and the power supplies have been upgraded or not.

FWIW, there are companies that will mod the analog output parts with high quality components. I have used Dan from Modwright's gear for years and wouldn't think twice about having him work on a BDP-83SE. Dan and others already offer mods on the stock player.

For example, Dan's mod includes the following and I am sure that other company's work is similiar:

Upgrade of stock power supplies.

Installation of Master Clock with Bursen Clock!

Installation of proprietary, dedicated analog power supply of our design.

Upgrade of a total of NINE (9) analog channels with our discrete FET-based circuit. Includes Stereo outs and all Multi-Channel outs, except sub out.

Shielding and damping mods to chassis and stock supplies.
